I think the convertible motor pump is dead. No movement. Sounded like it was struggling for last few times....was real slow up/down. Now it's stuck in the down position. Can't event anually pull it back up.

I can't for the life of me locate this motor. is it under the rear seat? Also...once I get to the motor pump is there a simple way to test if it's the pump itself?

I inherited this beuty and I'm just starting to get my feet wet. My 16 y/o son is making this his project!

Sounds like your pump ran out of fluid.

To find the pump, open up the trunk and then have someone hit the switch to activate it.
The noise you here should be comming from the back of the back seat area, it is in the trunk and might be covered by the well liner.

Once you find it there's a rubber plug that you can pry off to see if it is empty. I think you can fill it with brake fluid.
work the top up and down with the plug out to remove any air from the lines. Then top it off and have fun this summer.

BTW, where are you located on L.I.?

Hi guys. Had the same problem with my 69 Electra top. Took it apart changed motor filled oil spilled all over and the problem was the switch! I couldn't believe it the thing was straining going slow and even sticking. After all the work when nothing happened my account brother suggested moving the top switch plug to up/down antenna switch , there the same on mine not sure about yours, and there we go up and down nice and fast and strong. Even put the old motor back in no problem . So please check the SWITCH FIRST. good luck pete. Ps the other info is correct on location

The pump motor will be located directly behind the rear seat back in the vertical structure (just below the speaker location. You can also get at it from the trunk. Check the fluid level as suggested, but be careful not to overfill the reservoir or you will blow out the seal. While you can use brake fluid, I like to use Tranny fluid as it won't strip the paint if it leaks. If you are getting action on the motor/pump but no movement in the top, then the switch is likely fine and your out of fluid

Thanks all....I'll be taking your advice. Will post tomorrow.

Tufbuick...I'm in Williston Park on Long Island. Once I get things checked out and safe I'll bring the car out to some of the shows and nights out. She's a driver but in pretty decent shape. Just want to get the brakes and suspension up to speed. Car sat a while.

    Cheers
    Tom
