Well.. As I am saving money for this project I have been doing those little things to save time later. On the way home today I stopped by brown bearing and picked up a replacement for my throw out.. Got home and was looking through my parts box and it was not there. Not in a panic yet I called my brother whom was nice enough to help me with some disassembly and asked him if he had seen it. I hear "I tossed it as you should use a new one".

Anyhow the rest of the conversation was not G rated... now not only up sh*t creek without a paddle my boat apparently has a big hole in it. Suggestions on something of this nature, I doubt there is a source. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Reid

Not sure I understand the issue. You bought a new release bearing but your brother threw out the old one? Whats the issue?

Nothing today that I know of will actually work in this situation, you have to buy the bearing and press it onto the old retainer. The new bearings will not work in this application.

I wouldn't panic just yet. I have every confidence one of the many hoarders on here will be able to hook you up with a replacement,

Hoping that is a possibility yet not sure what all Buicks came with this style set up.. It appears its a 66GS 4speed only.

    That should work.
The current retainer is pn 1367058, fits 1939-1966.
My notes say the old pn 1319083 was superceeded by the above.
1505 bearing is the one according to what I read online.

Ya from what I can find the timken PN1367058 is avail although what it fits I cannot find, the 1319083 is obviously still avail and obviously the year range/model does not match. Just want to make sure it will fit and adjust correctly without modification (well modification before it is all assembled).

    Hi,

The bearing is the easy part, the holder is the hard part to find, late 30's Buick (wa thinking 37ish) used the same assembly, there was a place in Texas Terril bearing or something like that used to have nos ones, but believe that they sold out. You may want to check with them for more accurate info.

They do occasionally come up on ebay, or put a post in the parts wanted here and 65gs.com.

If you do look on ebay try the 30's Buicks search as they probably don't realize it fits newer Buicks, also might not cost you as much.

Good luck, make your brother pay for the replacement.

    Regards,

From the 1972 edition Buick parts book:

Group 0.799 Bearing, Clutch Release (includes sleeve)
    pn 1367058 fits the following:
    39-48 60-70-80-90
    53-60 V-8 c.t.
    63 4400 (LeSabre) c.t.
    63 46-4800 (Wildcat-Electra) 4 speed c.t.
    64-66 Skylark GS & Wildcat c.t.

The other pn listed in this catalog is 908093. .... obviously a different part.
    Fits:
    61-63 40-41-4300 (Special-Skylark) c.t.
    64-67 225-300-340 eng c.t.
    67-72 all A (400-455 eng)
    68-71 all B c.t. (430-455 eng)
    73 all A 4 speed (455 eng)

    c.t. = conventional transmission.

I can't find more info on the old pn, but applications do overlap with the new pn.

    As Jim suggested, try:

Contacted Terrill, they have part number TT1145H first picture, he said this was the old buick straight 8 bearing that has has had buick guys call and use all the way up into some 60's buicks.

Second picture is 1319083 AKA 1367058, the sleeve the bearing runs on. (ebay pic) The sleeves do not look the same? Or maybe I just cannot see that second ridge due to the pic angle.

    Hi again,

The first picture has the bearing installed

The second is the holder or retainer.

If you buy a replacement you only get a bearing.

Yes I understand, the retainer looked a bit different from pic to pic but again the angle of the pic might not be correct or possibly the retainers are manufactured differently.

    Hi again,

The retainer is a steel tube that has a flange and a upset as the bearing stop. The flange has a spring steel bracket that clips on the clutch fork.

The one I sent you a link on a pm looks correct to me and has the bearing already installed.

I am not sure why the number is 1 off 1319082 vs 1319083, but I suspect 1 is the whole assembly and the other is just the bearing.

Maybe someone can check the other number and confirm if that is it or not.

    Regards,

Thanks Jim, yes I understand the retainer the pic I posted of a complete NOS unit just does not have the angle to see the upset so it confused me a bit, actually your pic helped a lot, I ordered one from Terrill for 75$ per your recommendation and it is on its way. Their part number TT1145H is the first pic I posted but I did not see the upset but again probably the angle of the pic. Thanks so much for your help on this, I am very appreciative of all your help and knowledge. Possibly saved me from a heart attack.

The left hand photo is the 65/66 GS retainer installed on the bearing. If you had the old one you could have reused the retainer on the bearing you already bought. You may be able to see the retainer in this pic
