Wondering if anyone knows of or has any rear coil springs thatll fit a 66 to stock or even a teeny bit higher than stock. I put in a set of the 6197 (cheap at $60 delivered from speedway) and its too high to my liking visually and performance wise. Its higher than the front and the fronts were a little higher from the factory plus Im getting some bad wheel hop. I have anti hop bars but dont want it looking like its on a 4x4 chassis either. Cant cut them down at all, pig and square. The 5237 and 5231 springs are not available and no one seems to have any old stock around. Dont want to pay 268 bucks for a set of rears out of the Kansas shop made to order and delivered 8 - 10 weeks down the road they said. The 6197 would be fine if only 3 inches lower. Its a few inches above the tire. 5246 in the front and probably more apt to settle a bit.

I use the 6197 on my 66's. IMO it's the perfect height.
Tire size plays a HUGE part in how the car sits, don't make a final decision until you get your wheel/tires on there.
Here's an old pic of my red GS, 255/60-15's on the rear, 235/60-15 on the front.
6197 springs in rear, 6033 front.

Nice.. I would live with it I guess but the geometry is messed up now and it wheel hops itself to death when burning rubber. Going to run the same size tires in the photo with factory spinner hubcaps, just bought 8 of the 215 75 14s whitewalls because they are going to quit making them so stocked up a reserve set. I think the height is exaggerated even more because of the skinny's not filling the wheel wells. I want the sleeper stock look like pictured here on the special for an example. Maybe Ill try the belltech or other aftermarket springs since moog doesnt make the factory ones anymore. Dont know if it would be a 1 or 2 inch drop. Seen complaints its not 2 inches, more like 4 on some reviews. Springs unfortunately are not returnable once they are installed so wanted to try and get it right the first time.

I have trimmed down rear springs. I had put station wagon springs in my blue 66 but it sat too high. I used a cut off wheel to remove a partial coil, then heated a spot maybe a half coil from the end to bend it down a bit to make the spring seat in the frame better (flatter). While it's generally not a good idea to heat springs, it was close to the seat so it didn't affect the spring rate or function.

Moog stopped making coil springs? It sure seems that way with many of my searches resulting in a 'not available'.

Yes, they dont make the ones that are needed anyway. Ive seen the process to cut, heat and put back the square into the one end. I guess a person could experiment with that a bit. Just thought there would be something. Im thinking the BMR 1 inch lowering would be good. I think its universal for all the abody cars so might give the right height Im looking for. I know the wagon springs. Close as I came to that was in 78-79 when the HiJacker craze was in full force. Fill em as high as we could go and turning the air cleaner upside down was a hot rod. lol About as many mods as we knew.
