I'm pretty sure the 350 will bolt right up to the existing trans and linkage. I would think a new, higher holding force clutch would me neccesary, but otherwise everything should work. It should make for a fun ride, but I would try and find a 4 speed box. :3gears:

Saginaws are actually pretty good boxes if the horsepower and or traction is not pushed to hard. I have been running one behind my 455 for a few years now and it seems to be holding up nicely. I do attribute that to wheel spin more then anything else though. I'd guess a pair of slicks would finish of that box pretty quickly. I would say a mild 350 wouldn't load up a saginaw that bad, but I would probably look for a Muncie M-20. Either one should bolt right in, with the exception of possibly having to get adapters for the speedo cable.

The BG and Richmand Super T-10, from what I have heard, is said to be the strongest of all the manual boxes GM used with the possible exception of the M-22 Rockcrusher. I am in fact looking for a T-10 myself to replace the Saginaw. The plus side of the T-10 is that they sometimes came with super low 1st gears which would help getting out of the hole if you have a high rear end gear 3.23 and higher (numerically lower).

The only difference between a T-10 and the Saginaw, M-20, and some M-21s is that they have a fine spline input shaft and need the big T-400 yoke just like the M-22 rockcrusher.

Do what you want, but with the addition of the v-8, I woulds run the 3 spd for a while, and if you dont like it..... a 4 spd is an easy swap, with a new shifter. I had a 66 lark with a factory 300ci v-8, and 3spd trans, that was a super fun car to drive. Anyone who has hang ups with a 3-spd, probably never had one. :TU:

    Hey buick350,

If he decides to go with the automatic, and doesn't want to keep the stick parts (i.e. bellhousing, zbar, etc) I would be interested in purchasing them from him. Let me know.

    Thx,
    SR
