Whats the good kit these days? I'm looking for OE rubber mounts. I know the kit year one sells is trash. Any insight? Thanks
Joe, I purchased part number BMK515 from inline tube, bolt kit INL13476,quality is very good. I believe I purchased the 4 solid rubber pucks from Ames pontiac or Cars. Ill double check and see if I have the part #.Hope this helps,Joe.
I bought the convertible kit from Ames and got rid of the solid pucks and put body mounts with bolts in there instead. really firms up the chassis
A body frames are known for cracking in various places. The body helps supports the floppy frame. The rubber mounts deteriorate rapidly and lets everything get droopy and out of shape. Energy Suspensions 3.4155G is the kit I used. Torqued down tight, should be good for 100 years. Black poly mounts with 12 Buick pads (instead of 10 each for Chevy, Pontiac, Olds). My GS has a boxed frame too, So I'm hoping to save my frame as I hammer the throttle. Trailing arm supports braced the rear crossmember, and a Hellwig tubular rear anti sway bar stopped the pitch roll, & twist completely.
SS396 has the good Kitts with the correct density and the vulcanized washer bottom cap,..Ames does as well
I read somewhere, at least I think I did that the 68-72 mounts will work but are 1/4" taller. Can anyone confirm? I would gladly take the extra room in the trans tunnel if thats the case.
Yea I'm pretty sure they are little taller,..rad support bushings are I know,.. thinking they are like 5/8 on the 64/67
I had my originals in the GS boxed frame. I struggled as i was trying to get to match to a Freemont built car, right down to the paint used on the bushings (orange and yellow). Bolts "Inline tube" for Pontiac and Olds, Bushings I mixed and matched from CARS. I thought i'd saved the receipts so i'll check PN's. I do remember the center and core mount was the most difficult to match. I think i later saw "ss396" had a picture of what would be the correct core support mount, pretty unique.
The SS396 kit is a great value, it includes flanged bolts (but they're not perfect repo's). Most kits have the generic bushings for all locations. If you want exact repos you'll have to buy some individually.... the puck style over the rear axle, and the 4 most rearward mounts which are a larger diameter. Ames always has good products, they sort thru what is avail on the market and sell the best parts, which may cost a little more. Same goes for their body mount kits, they are closer to the originals and will cost more. Core support kits were tough to find, they are avail now. I've seen them on CARS site and on eBay. One problem with the kits is the lower mount bushing having the molded washer, most do not. I purchased the convertible kit and purchased the molded washer separately from cars.
