When does a two piece drive shaft go bad?
It doesnt vibrate or make noise and I paint-marked to two pieces to make sure its not twisting.
If or when it "Goes Bad" are there shops that can replace the rubber or should I replace the whole drive shaft

Mine twisted from Buick torque. Any driveshaft shop can make you a nice one piece shaft. That's the way to go unless you are Concourse minded.

If that is the original one, I would not wait for it to go bad. It is 40 years old and has served its purpose. Get a new 3" driveshaft made for your car as a one piece unit with new u-joints. Make sure you get it balanced too!

as if another vote for a one piece was needed, i did this myself two years ago and a host of mystery rattles and such went away, at no cost in ride quality or driveability

I'm sure the two piece seemed like a good idea at the time, but it's not the '60s anymore :)

new driveshafts are amazingly cheap, I got mine for 180 bucks with u-joints installed

If you get one made up let us know about it.

One word of caution I seem to remember that at a certain length a drive shaft starts to have problems with harmonics and flexing if made out of inferior products. This driveshaft is in that length so please use the top of the line products for yours. :TU:

I will keep all informed if and when I replace it,
the ride is smooth (as smooth as it can be with 40 year old hard bushings!)
