I did this to solve vapor lock and fuel starvation issues in my 64 'Cat. I tried everything including rerouting the stock fuel line away from the exhaust, fuel line installation, new mechanical pump, and cleaning and coating the fuel tank to no avail. I used the pump from an '87 Ford F-150 which is a low-pressure (5-7 psi)pump I cut about 3" off of the stock fuel pick-up tube and attached the pump to the bottom with two hose clamps as shown:

I had to bend the float rod slightly to clear the pump. I used two clamps for good measure. Since my car originally had A/C, which has a 1/4" return line, I ran the positive pump wire out through the return hose barb through a silicon cap. I drilled a hole in the flange and attached the pump ground wire to a screw and grounded the tank to the body with an external wire. There wasn't enough room on the flange for insulator bushings.

There wasn't much clearance between the electric pump and the hole in the tank which is also why there is no support bracket for the pump. Even if I have to change the pump every spring it is only $45 and about an hour labor time:

I had to add a relay to power the pump. The main circuit is protected by an in-line 10A fuse. The main power is taken from the horn relay positive terminal and the signal circuit for the relay comes off the most convenient switched power source, the wiper motor power wire. Some day I will clean this up a a little with better connectors and incorporate these wires into a new engine harness.

No more fuel issues. One day I'll add an inertia switch to cut the pump off in case of an accident. I can source that from the same truck as the pump. There is a low hum that you can hear at idle, but nothing a nice performance exhaust won't cure

Shades of the fuel pump hot wire procedure used by many turbo Buick guys to improve voltage to the in-tank pump. Nice job.
