    I am the former owner of several 70 and 71 Torino and rancheros . I have pics of my favorite but would have to scann them 1970 Formal roof ( notr fastback ) Standard Torino 429 SCJ one of a few . I added Hide away and GT taillight panel what a car .

    Please take someone who knows Mustangs to look at it. It looks good but you could be walking into a rust disaster.

    Agreed. Look at the fifth character in the VIN. If it's a "K", it's worth something, as that is the 271 hp 289.

    Yes the K designation is the 271 hp version and is very rare . I would imaging that whatever V8 drivetrain this car came with it will always have a large following . These cars were fun to drive and easy to work on . Just make sure that there is no rust in the floors, torqye boxes ( where the front of the rear leaf springs mount) and front frame rails . Everything else is easy fix on these .

    As pointed out earlier its a 66, the instrument panel is also different between 65/66. My main car I focus on is my 65 mustang coupe, I love it. Like others have said, parts are cheap, which as far as Im concerned rocks. The early mustang Resto-mod scene is also huge, which if your into that like I am, is also a plus. Starting with a v8 car is a good way to go, because alot of things are different between the I6 and v8 ford cars. Obviously you'll catch alot of flack about a Mustang on a Buick site, but I doubt many on here would really turn down a good deal on one. Not a muclecar? Perhaps better classified as a "ponycar," though a light car with a big is alot of fun no matter how you slice it. Wish my computer hadnt died, I would post up some pics of my Mustang for ya... For that one, considering the rust isnt bad, I would imagine 3-4k wouldnt be a bad deal. (also depends on your area, rust free cars bring more money up here in MN)

    Re: the bad mouthing, Don't remember very many "Shelby Buicks" or remember seeing Buicks running SCCA A sedan. It's very easy for these guys to take credit for the GS's and GN's......... 30 years later. Fix the rust enjoy the inexpensive parts and let them talk.

    Amen to that! as long as the sub frame is solid, it would be inexpensive to build your daughter a respectable vehicle.
    As far as reliability, I heve had a couple for friends that had different year 'Stangs ('65-'72 they have not built a Mustang since) and the only time that they had any issues were when they "modified" a problem into it or did not maintain it.

    I love my '70 GS clone and my '89 BII, a good vehicle is what you make it!

    If you want to drop in a BBB, you'd either have to go with a Mustang II front suspension for the 66 or get a 67-73, which actually came with BBF's. I'll be installing my MII suspension this winter, though im keeping the small block, making room for turbos!

    From what I remember, an easy check to see if it came originally with a v-8 is the lugs. Factory v-8's had 5-lugs versus 4-lugs for the 6's. My best bud had a '66 back in the early 90's. I remember the front fender was a sweet heart when it came time to pull it off for painting. Nice rigs. The 289 gave my '69 350 a run for the money on the top end. I had him easy off the start. The car always got the ooh's and aah's from the chicks. My bud made water run uphill when he was nearby so it had to be the car!

    My 2 cents.
    There's a great Mustang following out there and as much as I hate to say it(Ford hater here),it is an iconic automobile.With such a long run and generations,in my opinion,the early one will have a spot anywhere at any time.The fact that the availability of parts is great and reasonably priced is a good thing and most likely a breath of fresh air for a Buick enthusiast:bglasses: .If anything the stock 4spd. set up should be considered when coming up with an offer,somebody out there would love to have this car in any condition,if you have the time and the resources you could do well.Or you could do like buickbonehead or as you stated,build it for your daughter or the wife,they are great chick cars.I would not venture to suggest a number but if the car is not rotted and the numbers are all good for V8-4spd, I would not try to low ball it.Just my opinion:TU: .
