Need to fix shift linkage on my 64 Special automatic. The spring (I guess) that allows you to put the transmission shift lever into park is broken. It started with not having a lot of movement (stiff) pulling gear column shifter toward you when going from park into gear. I could get in gear though and back to park by moving lever straight up and down through the gears.. Yesterday it went into neutral by pulling straight down but now it won't go into park. So is there a spring inside the column that lets you pull the shift lever toward you to put the transmission in park? Thought I would ask if anyone on the board has experienced this.
