Hi, Factory dual quad manifolds aren't drilled for heat port at the carb, not sure if blocking the passeges at the head would help or not especially after a long drive, every Buick I've owned would boil out the fuel and be a pain to start until fuel got back to the carbs. You are correct. There still is an exhaust passage in the manifold. I blocked it at the heads. It seemed to work. The quadrajet manifold was blocked under the carb. And yes, it still boiled out the gas.
Yeah, I think that is an issue with modern fuels. I've been thinking of adding an electric fuel pump just to prime the carb(s). I still have to work out the details...
