    Just incase the 0.5 6th and 3.42 gear ratio comes up again, heres a video of my measely little 355 with that same configuration. Enjoy;

(Shift thru all 6 gears, and cruise in 6th)

(nice little run up thru the first three gears, the car hits just over 70km/h in first, very nice for merging onto the freeway).

I have a 67 GS400 that I installed a T-56 in. I bought an aftermarket transmission and it came with an adapter plate. The plate bolts on to the bellhousing just like the 4 speed then the T-56 bolted on to that. The plate its self is only about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. There are some other things to think about. The tranny is bigger than the 4 speed so I had to cut out some of the center hump (pretty much the hole lenght of tranny) to get the tranny up high enough. I had to make a new crossmember plus mounted it back about 8 inches farther than stock. Also have the drive shaft shortend. It was alot of messing around but it was well worth it. I love having the 6 speed in the car. Now driving around at 60 in only turning 1600 to 1700 instead of 3000 with the 4 speed.

  5. I am attempting to put a t56 in my '70 skylark. I have the trans fitted into the car (modified the tunnel and crossmember). I got the clutch master cyl bracket. The only thing I need is a clutch pedal assembly. I thought that I could use the pedal assembly from a chevelle but apparently this is not true.

What clutch pedal assembly did you use? Where can I get one?

    Thanks,

    CD

im assuming youre aware of which clutch to use with the trans and how to make it work.

The chevelle pedals mounted differently than the buick and olds version. Replacement 4sp pedals for a buick should work.

Try rockland standard gear. I think 5speedtransmisions.com is out of business. Autogear might work as well. Do a google search, usually places selling muncies, or aftermarket 5/6 speeds carry them.

  8. I orginally bought a pedal assembly from a place called Eckler's Chevelle. They said the assembly would fit in any A-body. Luckily, they were back ordered and I started to look around. Year One told me that the Chevelle assembly wouldn't work in a buick. I kept looking and posted on here. I eventually emailed TA Performance. They didn't have the pedals but suggested I contact a place called "The Parts Place". They had it. Looks like they have a bunch of buick parts.

I bought a '93 camaro with an LT1 and T56 a few year back. The plan always was to put the trans in my buick. The T56 will sit behind a 400 sbc that has been sitting in my garage.

I have already cut the tunnel, modified the crossmember and moved the engine mounts. I think all that is left is to modify & mount the pedal assembly, cut the hole for the clutch master cylinder and bolt everything back together. Let me know if I am missing something.

I have had this buick since the late 80's. It hasn't been a daily driver for about 7 years. I am looking forward to driving it to work again.

Any suggestion of a rear gear?

    Thanks for the info.

minimum rear gear should be 3.73 but ideal is 4.10. You can cruise on the highway at 1600rpm with a 4.10.

Do you know what youre using for a clutch and flywheel? You'll need an external balance 2pc RMS flywheel to work with the 400.

wow 1600rpm cruising, my cam/motor would not like that.

yea some motors might not. 4.56 might be better if that is the case.

I think cruise would be around 2200 depending on tire size with that.

  12. Then I probably won't be using 6th gear very much with my 3.36 (if I remember correctly). I am planning to put a 9" rear end in it at some point down the road. I can pick a better gear then.

I can use the stock clutch (that I replaced about 1000mi ago) with an externally balanced flywheel. Centerforce makes one specifically for this combo. It ain't cheap. The 400 short block came out of my dad's old impala wagon. It has a standard bore and I assume it is rebuildable but nobody has looked at it yet. I holding off on the flywheel purchase until the block checks out. If it doesn't I will find a 1 pc rear main seal block and build a 383. Then I could use the stock flywheel from the camaro.

I know I haven't posted on this topic in a while , but I have decided that I will do the 6 speed swap. I am going to use a viper trans when my finances permit. Right now I'm working on making the factory 4 speed pedals work with the clutch master cyl. I have an LS1 style clutch master right now.,but I am also getting one from a Ram SRT10 I'm going to try. Either way I will make my own bracket for that.
I am also posting a link that may be useful.

    power to you Tim.

You will be ahead in many ways by starting with a viper T56. It has a higher initial cost, but well worth it if you want it to live behind healthy buick torque.

Well Azeem, I don't have the trans yet. but that is what I plan to do. That's what I really want and if it takes me alittle longer to save the money and fabricate things it will be worth it when it's finished.

just an idea....you can get a grea vendors unit for a 4 speed muncie. is there any benifit to installing a 4 speed hen installing a gear vendors unit. would be a cleaner install than hacking the tunnel. that is what i have considered. i have all the four speed stuff (pedals to bell housing). just do not have trans. i am not thinking of doing it now i just collected parts.

i think that it would be more money than the t-56 but way easier.

    any thoughts?
