Well Jim, I won't dispute your assesment of our East Coast sea level air being a performance enhancer, however, my car went 8.74 at Norwalk, not Englishtown, Atco, or Cecil County. I've had about a dozen passes in the 8.80s at our tracks, but the fast pass was at Norwalk in '04 on a cool, dry, "good air" day that compared favorably to the best East Coast sea level weather conditions. Your "good day" of 1500 feet is about average for us. We don't get the "mineshaft" air that often here, just more often than you! BTW, what's that red thing on the front of the motor with the line coming out of it? The thing below the pump.
Doug, You would have appreciated his last run last year... front end in the air about 4 feet, tripped the 60' lights with the rear wheels.. He was looking out the side window to make sure it was still going straight. I'm obviously going to have to do some chassis tuning in about a week here, when we take it out for the first time this year. And then go hunting for some air... as we both know, you used to be about 3-4 tenths faster than him, at the same track on the same day. But that was 200 pounds and 60 Hp ago, so we will see what it can do now. I am sure we would be happy with any 8 second pass. It ran 9.25 at 145 last year, but it was on the rev limiter for about 500 ft in second gear, as the shifter was acting up.. that's also the pass he hurt the motor on.. I haven't driven it since we got the new cam, intake and carb setup, but he says that it pulls a lot harder than it used to downtrack. That was always what kept this car out of the 8's in the past, it has no trouble going low 1.2 60' times. So we are cautiously optimistic. ------------- That's the oil filter.. It's the "oberg" type now made by Holley. They use them for oil and fuel filters. Look it up on the Holley website. I use it as a convenient place to distribute the oil feed lines, as well as a filter. JW
I drool every time I see pix of this car. Not only is it balls fast... it's a work of art! Great work Jim :TU:
Here you go: http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w20/SLD1624/?action=view¤t=SweeseyBPG08.flv This was in the Columbus heat. This car has to be in the 8's in Cecil County mineshaft air.
I baited the hook for George and tried to reel him in.....not sure if it'll happen but I gave it a good try. He gave me a maybe. As far as JW's claim that they aren't aiming George's car squarely at me.....George ran a best of 9.18 at Columbus this year and I ran a best of 9.07 last year at Columbus. I'm a little lighter, George is a little more horsepowered. Creeping closer, ever closer.
I have no idea what your talking about... I'm just trying to get an old Buick racer in the 8's with his Dad's car.. and keeping it in one piece at the same time... mmmnnn... get the bars/shocks right to get it back to the 1.20 60' time, get the front end out of the air downtrack.... an '07?.. ya, coulda run that...
It was fun to see this car run again at the BPG nats. I don't remember ever seeing it there, except when JW had it there in 04. Looks like you guys have done some tweaking since then
Bring it to Reynolds in November. It will easily run some .70's if it ran 9 teens in the Columbus heat on a greasy track. I wouldnt be surprised if it ran a .60 something.
In the first place Pat, I was talking about me and my car being lighter than George and his car. In the second place, I'm guessing you knew that but took a cheap shot at me anyway. In the third place, you're fat AND you smell bad! :bla: JR and JW, George's car isn't going to run 8.60s or 8.70s anytime soon unless it gets some more tweaking AND some East Coast autumn air. Let's have him run some 9.0s and some 8.90s before we wade too deep into the ET pool! Those numbers seem to get harder and harder to improve on and at some point you just plateau. PS - JR, don't start trying to steal my action with your johnny-come-lately pitch for Reynolds in November! Cecil County in October is where it's at!! Come up and run your car at Cecil this year, then go back and run it in GA the next month. I already know the results.
Douglas, First off, where do you think Reynolds is located, I mean geographically? Secondly, I hate to say it pal, but why do you think the turbo contingent comes down from up north to run Reynolds in November?? Because thats when and where records are broken. :Smarty: :beers2: You should come and be part of the action in November. JW, Forget Cecil. I will arrange free entry to the Sweesey car for Reynolds if the trip is made. I know its a long haul, but it would be worth it. :beer And dont touch a thing on it from BPG except jet it up. .70's will not be a problem.
First off, I checked. It's below Atlanta, precisely here: Lat: 32.71 Lon: -83.65 Elev: 354 Secondly, I hate to say it to YOU pal, but prior to this year's awesome six second pass by the Gallina/Freeman car in BG, the ET record for a Buick was set a few years ago at our Cecil event by Billy Anderson. So there! You should come be a part of our action in October. Then I'll think about coming to Reynolds in November. JW, I will arrange for a free Coors Light for George if he brings the car to Cecil. I know it's a long haul, but it would be worth it. I also offered George to borrow one of my convertors if you wanna give it a shot. I make no silly claims as to exactly how fast he'll run, only that it'll be his fastest passes EVER!! In closing, Georgia is too far away, and George won't run any faster there than he would at Cecil. JR's just trying to steal my deal! :spank:
Whatever..... What you "think" and what I "know" must be two different things. :idea2: At any rate, I sent you a PM reguarding sponsorship of your Super 16 class for 2009. I am ready to make my committment if you are on as the class leader still.:beer
For what it is worth, and coming from me, that's not much. But, I have raced at both Cecil County and Reynolds both several times, and hands down Cecil Co. is faster. I know Tim and his wife Lisa that run Reynolds and they do a great job and I don't want to hurt their feelings as they work the NMCA events and I consider them friends, but I have always been faster in Maryland. Other than No Problem LA, I have went fastest in Maryland and had some good luck there. We all need to be racing both events but I can't make either this year. JIm Netherland
