455/TH400 into '66 Sportwagon

Discussion in 'Drag'n Wagons' started by Ian Fitzgerald, May 26, 2018.

  1. Hello everyone, just making a start on this big block swop into my 66 Sporty, is there any particular problems I am likely to come across?
Using 73 small valve 455 and 70 short case BB TH400 and installing with TA mounts and frame brackets. Gonna be using a 72 8 1/2 rear end with 3.08 highway gears.
    Thanks

Make sure the TH400 has the correct length tail on it. The sportwagon frame is stretched five inches to accommodate the glass in the roof and it may affect the trans cross member location. My rebuilder used a short tail when it should have been a long tail.

  3. Thanks for your reply. Did it require a custom driveshaft or did it give rise to other issues, using the short case?
    Best wishes Ian

Check to see if your fuel lines are adequate.

  5. Already uprated the tank unit to 3/8, but have retained the 1/4 return line. Just have to run a new 3/8 line along the chassis to the front.
