Couple weeks ago I bought a fiber glass front lip spoiler that accommodates hoses for air intakes into the air cleaner. Unfortunately, the seller had already sold the air cleaner assembly, but I think it is like the one pictured. My questions are these:

Is this something that was made for a Buick or were these for a Pontiac?

Is anyone running this setup and if so is there any horsepower gains running this setup?

For those running this setup - Any clearance issues with the stock hood?

Depending on these answers may decide whether I cut my losses or if I pursue finding this air cleaner.

As always, thanks for the advice.

Poston Enterprises made & sold these back in the 90's. They are out of business now but the air cleaner assembly for an Oldsmobile may work.

Spectre performance also has a kit, I prefer the look of the "ram air box" tho.

As far as performance yes it does work, it was worth a solid 3mph on one of my cars, back to back same day test, it really only becomes effective once you get over 80mph, I swear I could feel my car pick up a little once you hit 80

Wow, 3 mph is impressive.. Do you think it would work better if installed below the front bumpers like Olds did?

We used the Spectre performance stuff several years back and had air intake on the inner head lights. Hood clearance was an issue with the SPX intake, but it would fit. We had no gains at track so we took it off and sold it. We were expecting some gains. Seems like it should help out.

anytime you use fresh outside air is way better than heated air from the engine compartment. Just like Ethan said, we picked up around 2+ mph. At that time I used the high beams for the ram air and made the air cleaner and air tubes. Wish the ram air box would of been invented, it would of been easier to do. You got to think out of the box and make pieces that work for you application. Perhaps cut out where the front license plate goes or create a scoop that fits between the core support and the bumper or just below the bumper. thin cardboard is your friend to start designing and mocking up things, then move unto metal.

I actually started on a bumper few years ago that has a scoop where the licence plate is, lots of room back there and would work awesome I bet. But the one I used years ago was in the spoiler but it was pushed up to the front of the bumper "copy of the prototype style spoiler"

Some 66 and 67 Olds 442s have bumper intake set ups that are reproduced.

I had that setup from Poston for years. I think it made some difference (cold air is just better). No clearance issues at all. It had a fibreglass air cleaner assembly and 4" flex hoses. Didn't look too bad. Sold it a while back!

My Skylark ran the best ET as well as MPH with this aluminum Ram Air Set-Up I designed. (Outperformed My Stage-2 hood that's decorating my wall in the basement). It fit under the GS hood with a SP2-Dominator combo. The scoops I designed fit under the bumper, have screens, and follow the lines and angles as to be totally stealth unless you are really looking hard from at least 20ft back, ..... it's actually on the car in my Avatar Photo (a little rough around the edges in the photo below but I'll be refinishing them during the cars current freshen up that's going on). I used C1 Corvette 4" under hood fresh air hose because it's an extremely durable fabric based material made for production. The Air-Box takes a K&N 16" X 3" filter that just drops in.
I designed everything using cardboard and worked with a friend of mine to fabricate it out of aluminum. (He's the fellow that made the Lamborghini Countach in his basement , "Bull InThe Basement " is his web page telling his story).

I am trying to make my 1968 Skylark mimic the 66/67 Olds 442 bumper intake.
Using a GS Dual snorkel air cleaner and 3" foil flex ducting, just need to fashion the "inlets" to the bumper.
I was going to try a couple of large shop vac 2-1/2 wet nozzles. but I may use thin aluminum and make my own "intakes".

    I have a 350-4 and the ST300.
Added a 750CFM Q-Jet, and it would fall on it's face when the secondaries opened, so I added a spacer and changed the "Q-bert " tiny mouth snorkel for the large oval (Olds Air cleaner) and it "woke up" quite a bit.
    (Using the old school "ButtDynoâ„¢"...)

This is just for Sh*ts and giggles, until I change the drivetrain out. Just wanted to see what I could do for a few dollars and play time.
