Hello. I'm looking to mate a 455 with a manual transmission. It will go in a 65 skylark. Can someone please explain the matting. My tranny tyranny of choice I want is a t56, but am not set in stone. I like it for the overdrive and for the high torque rating. The magnum t56 is rated at 600+torque I think. I've been told this combo is not quick bolt up because something about push or pull on the clutch with the flywheel (which I don't get) and some oldtimmer told me "good luck trying to get a flywheel for that" I'm kind of stuck and would like to understand. Below I put a picture of a flywheel- is this what I need. Is there a trick out there. I would love a manual transmission for my 455. As easy as a 200r4 sounds I feel like I'm just doing to much. Thanks
No that's a clutch disc and pressure plate.you will need a flywheel to bolt to the crankshaft. I have that centerforce clutch in my 70 gs and it works good!it's in my car I have for sale if you really want a 455 4speed car??!! !
An important issue is getting your crankshaft drilled for the trans snout and the correct bearing installed. Others include the method for activating you clutch, the size of the clutch and the spline count to fit your trans, rebalancing your engine with the manual flywheel and procuring the correct flywheel with the correct tooth count. TA sells the flywheel
QuickTime Bellhousing $600 Every crank I have ever seen or had was drilled bushing is machined to fit no biggie No need to rebalance engine you the come neutral balanced Billet flywheel $300 Clutch $350 Mcleod Hydraulic clutch setup $350 Stock T56 would be subpar and would need to come from a 98+ Fbody 93-97 fbody used the oddball clutch setup stay away from those New Magnums are $2800+ish Pedal setup is available new from several vendors sama as Chevelle
1500 in bellhousing and clutch accessories. Dang. Looks like I'm just gonna go with slushbox with a lockup to save money. I would like to drive my buick sooner than later. And could always swap for a standard. Thanks Guys
I installed a TKO 600 from American Powertrain in my '64. By the time I was done I had $4 grand in it plus some transmission tunnel fabrication $. Not cheap but the tranny handles 600lb/ft and the car is way more fun to drive.
As much as I want this- i don't see it happening YET. I'll just save up and learn more, engine swaps and tranny swaps really interest me. Thanks for all the post
