getting my heads done for my new 455 gonna check the springs but i need to know what cam to run. its a 69 GS striped, iron 70 stage 1 heads flowing 281.6 @.700 intake and 212.2@.700 exhaust. gonna run TRW forged pistons, headers, T/A sp1 intake, 1.6 roller rockers (need them) , rear is a 4.11 12 bolt, trans th400 with about 4000 stall. thanks

We would really need a lot more information about what you are trying to do here, what you are after, and what will be the purpose of the car when you are done. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES

race only car, manual brakes, no tube frame, maybe lexan, I would think with these heads maybe a 10sec car, thanks Jim

    Hi Guys,

Mike........what does the car weigh AND do you plan on keeping the 4000 stall convertor or willing to change? As you probably know the camshaft and convertor need to be a compatable "marriage" for everything to work correctly and be the best it can be.:D Also.....being a race-only vehicle, what fuel (octane) will you be running? I ask because you need as much compression as possible to enhance everything (this also is a factor in camshaft consideration). That being said, I would O-ring the block as a precausionary measure.

Kerry, not sure what the car weighs, havent got a stall yet, thats just what i was thinking. wasnt gonna put a girdle on the block unless i really need to, seen a 70 GS @ bristol running 10s without one. was gonna run the TRW forged pistons, because gonna run nitrous (locally).

    Mike:

With those iron heads (which flow some really good max. numbers by the way) you show 75% int. to exh. flow. You'd want something with about 10* split. People tend to overcam their engines leading to tuning and driveability problems. I would think duration #'s in the low to mid 240's on the intake and low to mid 250's on the exhaust. I put an engine together for a friend & had Comp Cams grind a 240/253 using their Extreme Energy lobes. It has a reasonably tame idle running slightly less compression than you, using Gessler heads that flowed 253 on the intakes but had good low to mid lift flow numbers. SP1 intake with a 1000 HP Holley and a good fuel system. His car weighs 3,900lbs. without the driver and is running a 3.42 gear, stock 350 trans and converter and stock suspension. With a 28" slick it runs 12.20's at 111 mph, through the full exhaust. There's more in it wth tuning and it needs some suspension work. Later
