Nice car Mike I have a 462 thats close to yours with a GSCA Hemi killer , TA single plane and TA big tube headers. The car is a fact 4sp and I had a new Muncie super case built for it. I was worried about breaking the original M-21. The super case has the italian M-22 gears and iron mid plate. This trans is all new not some worn out hand me down. The rear end has a Eaton case with 3.90 gears. I have had every different gear set from 3.08 all the way to 4.56 in the car in the last 30 years. Thats 8 combos over the years. The tires are 275 60 15. The problem with the M-20 gear set is its not as strong. Ya it may have a slight 1st gear advantage , but breaking parts suck. Build a new one and it will be the last one. I have had the 3.90s in for a couple years. Like I said I have had alot of different gear ratios over the years. These are great for around town and some highway use. The car does freak show burn outs in ANY gear and pulls like a freight train. Well that is what its all about.......Right??? lol Hope your change over goes well. John PS yes the 3.90s are my favorite
I have a very similar build, I am running an M21 :3gears: with the 3.42 rear. It is a fricking blast. I like the 3.42's for all around cruising. Tim
I agree they are fun also. I have had two sets of those ,the last one some how got the pinion bearing wasted. Something about 30x9x15 slicks launching at 4 grand. The 3.90 offer more stop light to stop light fun. Mikes 3.73 are right in the ball park.
