Got my cam broke in. The oil gauge in my 76 Freespirit is reading at 3/4. Is this good, bad, normal? I do not have an actual gauge to test it.
Is there set pressure associated with the 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 mark on the gauge?

3/4 is good probably around 60~65 lbs

No way to tell at all. There are 60 psi senders and 80 psi senders. 3/4 on the gauge might mean 45 or it might mean 60. I have an Autometer mechanical gauge and the stock gauge hooked up. By comparing them, I can see I have an 80 psi sender.

Run it.you want to see what it’s at hot in gear. Gauge is probably 45 psi as mentioned. So it’s pretty decent so far.

Without adding a real gauge we really can’t give any useful input.

3/4 probably good but I would get a gauge if worried about it but I can tell you from my experience with this motor it can have 5 lbs at idle and work just fine.

Where did you attach the autometer gauge to the block?

Stock location, same place the stock oil pressure sender screws into. I used a brass fitting tee to run both gauges.

There are a number of ways to do that. Above is one way to run an idiot light sender and mechanical gauge.

He should have the factory style gauge, basically the same as the gs cars 70-72
