    That will make a great combo. But look into adding a 323/342 gear to match engine. 2000 convertor in trans also would be helpful. Its not just about making more power from the engine as it is the total combo working together. Avoid the edelbrock carbs.

    I'm definitely planning on a new convertor, I still need to open up the rear diff and see what gears I have, the tag is missing.

    If you have air cond it may be a 2.73 non ac can be a 2.56. . gm didn't use tags to I'd rear it will be stamped in axle tube. Check eBay for gm used gears. You might even find one complete with carrier for a simple swap. These axles are bolt in not c clip. But cclip 8.5 parts work fine.

    It's is originally an ac car. I did not know that about the tag, I'm used to building on jeeps, this is my first GM. I have lots to learn!

    My '72 Skylark convertible with AC came with 2.56 rear gears so the w/ac or wo/ac comparison is probably not that accurate. A 2bbl vs. a 4bbl car might be a more accurate comparison?

    2.56 = 2bbl carb

    2.73 = 4bbl carb

    I'm not sure this is how they did it but it would make sense because a 4bbl engine wouldn't have the low end grunt of the 2bbl engine so the 4bbl got some extra gear ratio. Also a 2bbl engine would be above its power RPM band with the numerically higher gear ratio at highway speeds.

    My convertible was 2 barrel no ac car. 2.56 gear.

    Sorry, I forgot to add that my '72 is a 2bbl car with AC.

    Well guys, I went to look at a driver's door today that a guy had, and I ended up coming home with not only the door, but two 455s. One is complete with serpentine system, on is complete minus intake and exhaust manifolds. It was like a sign from above that I needed to go with a 455. Got both for $175. I hope I did good on them.

    What serpentine system is on the 455, they never came that way from the factory and an aftermarket system is VERY expensive to buy new, much more than you paid for both engines. Are you sure you bought Buick 455 engines?

    March serpentine kit is almost 3 grand. Post some picks as its either homemade or it ain't a Buick 455. Buick 455 has distributer in front.

    I'm sorry, I worded that wrong, it has all the brackets, p.s. pump, ect. On the front. I've always used the word serpentine kinda as a universal word for all that stuff, my mistake haha. I've tried to post pics but I always get an error message

    So now that I'm certain I'm doing a 455 build, anyone want to join me in the 455 section to give me advice since yall were so great here? Hahaha

    So you are done with the 350? I am following along with your thread as I am a new buick owner trying to get the most out of my 350.

    Yeah, no 350 for me. I stumbled upon a couple of 455s for about the same price as I could buy a 350 block for. I was looking forward to building the 350, but in the end I think I can get more out of the 455 for the same amount of money.

    I will follow that thread too then. I got a 455 this weekend and I am just learning about all the engine tech.

    All talk and no go in the 350 section another one jumps to the 455. a stock 350 ain't going to cut it here in the 350 section. I guess no one wants to build a race 350.

    hey guess what guys, I ran 11.81 on just a 120 shot of nitrous and went 12.20 on just a 75 shot. 20 years old and still running. over 500 trips down the 1/4 mile. plus a 2 hour round trip at 3000 rpm

    whoops wait a minute, I am in the stock 350 section, moving to the race 350 section. where is that at? I can't find it.

    "Is there anybody in there"

    I don't really understand the point in your post. Yeah I went to a 455 instead of a 350, you make that seem like a bad thing. That's great you are running a 350 still. I just happened to stumble upon a couple 455s and decide to go that route. Maybe you should try get a 350 race section started?

    It is not a bad thing that you are doing a 455 instead of a 350, it's easy power. I have seen them in action should have done it myself. I wanted to be different and do a 350 no big deal. You are right there should be a race 350 section. But which racer will show up, real or bench.

    Gotcha, the only thing bad about switching to the 455 is I had a real good plan on how I was going to build the 350. Now I have to start all over with the 455...oh well.
