hi guys i have a couple of questions for you first i have a lineon an aluminum 4barrel intake but i have a 300 with the iron heads. I have heard that the two are not interchangeable because of head diffrences. the guy that has this intake says that he has swapped the aluminum ones onto car with cast iron heads with no problems. I then went down to the local advanced auto parts to see if there were more than one diffrent intake manifold gaskets and there computers said that there were no changes from 64-66. So does this mean that the are interchangeable? If not what is the diffrence between the two, is there any way to make them work or is it not worth the hassel a can get this one for $125
    thanks adam

1965-7 cast iron was used for the heads and intakes--------- different deck heights!!!!!!!!!!!!!............

    re-300intake ?

so your saying that the earlier 300's have a diffrent deck height i thought that all the 300's were the same and the 340 is diffrent
    thanks aam

Adam, ALL 300's have the same deck height. 64-67 is all the same. 340's have a higher deck height. 64 aluminum intake in on the left, 65 cast iron on the right. They are the same width.

The difference is in port size. 64 ports are smaller than 65 and later ports in the cast iron heads. Also, intake gaskets for the 64 ARE different than the 65-67 gaskets. I think some parts stores just give you the later ones because they were in production longer. Also, the 64 intake is water heated while the 65 and later intakes have provision for heat crossover.

I can't really answer that one because I've never done it. But, like you, I've heard people say they've run the aluminum intake on the cast iron heads with no problems.

I have run the 4 bbl alum intake on my 66 300 iron headed motor...until I blew the motor up and dropped in a 455!!! :eek2: :Brow:

As far as I could remember, I just got a intake gasket for the 66 300 motor from the parts store and bolted it up...Didn't have any problems with it and ran it like that for something like 9 or 10 yrs...
