Nothingface5384 Detail To Oil - Car Care

well guys i may be delaying myself on my engine/tranny swap(might be buying a yota4x4)
so in the meantime i want to improve on my 231 v6 a lil, while spending very few $:-D
    so here goes
could i convert to tbi by the means off a 4barrel carb off of a 4.1v6 and get a throttle body..harness and ecm stuff off of my pontiac 3.0?
i guess i would need a holly 4barrel to tbi unit too?

    thanks in advance

You might want to double check this with the Turbo V6 crowd, but, I think that the NA 3.8l SFI v6's, along with the GN/TR intakes, fit the traditional 231's. If looking in the junkyard at 3.8l v6's, look for '87 and older 'Vin 3' engines. In early '88, they switched to the 'Vin C' engine, which was an 'on-center' block design.

In fact, I believe that the Vin 3 engines even had the RWD engine mounts still in the block.

This would necessitate getting the computer/harness from the same donor car also. But, it would give you SFI (sequential port fi). Could be done 'on the cheap'. :TU:

That 3.0l Buick v6 intake would be a good one to trial fit also.

If you wanted to only go with TBI, you could also snag the entire setup off a 4.3l Chevy S-10 or something. You'd need to get the adapter you mentioned....can get them from www.turbocity.com or elsewhere. Cubic inch wise, you'd be similar enough to not have a problem with the computer.
