Went to a local trailer dealer here in SW Florida looking for a 24' enclosed trailer. I really like the idea of the aluminum trailers like the Exiss and Featherlites but they are out of my budget and seem to be 3X the money. I asked about the empty weight difference and was surprised to learn that similar size/configuration steel vs. alum trailers were less than 500 pound weight difference.

I am on a budget so Aluminum is out of the question. I got a quote on a "South Georgia Cargo" trailer with the following specs:

24' V-Nose (24' box, the V-section is another almost 2' in the nose)
5200# Torsion Axles with electric brakes on all 4 wheels
    15" Radial Trailer Rated tires
Extended Tongue - Allows my Equal-I-Zer hitch brackets to be mounted
Escape Door on Left Side - Allows you to open car door when in the trailer
    LED Rear Tail lights
    No Show Beaver Tail
    3/4" Plywood Floors
    3/8" Plywood Walls
Single Roof Vent & 12v Overhead Light
    4 - D Rings Mounts

$6050.00 Brand New delivered to the local dealer. 2 week delivery.

Seems like a great value. This is my first trailer and I've been reading and researching a bit. It has the main features that I think are important. Did I miss anything?

I've looked on RacingJunk and Craigslist hoping to find a great deal on a used trailer but seems like everyone wants $5000+ for used.

    Feedback and advice appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Rob

ps. I also posted this option in the other thread where Ken was looking for a trailer.

Seems like a good deal to me.
Do you take a golf cart or 4 wheeler? If so, the 24' won't be long enough for you. I also recommend changing out your tires if the standard tire they put on is the Chinese made trailer special. I was told they may throw a tread and mess up your new trailer.

Considering not being able to look at it...it seems like a good deal.
I like the fact that it has the v-nose. That actually helps in not only more room but going down the road.

One thing I would add are ac outlets inside front and rear and maybe one on the right outside. And ac lighting...

    Have fun!!

I plan to add some electrical and lighting upgrades over time. I can do those items myself when time allows and the need makes itself well known. For now I think this is a great value for a new trailer. I will paint the wood floors and walls white or gray to brighten the inside and seal the wood to help prevent stains. I am thinking about E-Trak on the floor also.

I just have a 20' trailer but mine also has the door on the left and I would never buy another trailer without the left door. The trailer your thinking of buying sounds like a good deal, good luck in your decision.

Get a quote from TRT Trailers in Lincolnton, NC. Google them. A couple of board members have bought 24 foot trailers made in GA from them for about $5100.00. They were identical to what you describe excepyt for the extended toungue. Not sure how much $ that adds. Use quote to keep your guy honest.

    Rob,

Add a spare tire or provision for one. Also check the tire upgrade price.

Try FB Trailer in Jacksonville. Just bought a 24' Continental Cargo from him.
5200# axles, white walls, ceiling, rubber diamond floor, 12v lights, 110 lights, ac outlets in and out upper & lower cabinets, left side escape door. He will find anything you are looking for and a pleasure to deal with and very reasonable.

    Rob,

Does the frame of the trailer have cross members at 16" centers or 24" centers? Is the frame a Z channel, C channle or Tube and what is the size of the channel? Is the floor plywood weather resistant? What is the load rating on the tires and how many plyes are they D or E? What is the GVW for the trailer, typically with #5200 axles it is 10,000.

I am assuming it is a 8 1/2' interior between and the wheel wells are interior to the trailer. Make sure the door clears the wheel wells inside the trailer.

Great advise. I would highly recommend you test fit your car before you make this purchase. Several people have had to add one or two 2x12's stacked to raise the car up so the drivers door would clear the inside wheel well of the trailer.

I can measure the height of mine if you need me to, but maybe the pic will answer the question if you compare it to the one you are looking at.

Yes, this is Glen Stringfield's former trailer. It has had a great life hauling both a 10-10 and a QQ GSX around. :3gears:
