In addition to the cash and gift cards, we also have, thanks to Jim Rodgers, this frighteningly awesome belt for the winner.

Thanks, Jim, for that and everything else you do for BSA.

Jim is a real asset to the Buick hobby in general but especially the BSA class. Thanks Jim!

    Quick question…how many days left?

All I was planning to do was replace a lifter that’s been clicking for about 8 years. Then I noticed a broken driver side motor mount and it snowballed from there. The was the first engine I ever built entirely myself at age 20 in 1994. I pulled it apart in 1996 to deck the block to bump the compression ratio (but reused the rings, etc) and have just been enjoying it ever since then.

I was a little apprehensive about looking too closely and I didn’t dare pull a rod or main cap off but everything else looks pretty good except the factory windage tray was broken, drivers side motor mount was broken (that could have been bad), cracked passenger side exhaust manifold. While I’m here I’m removing the high volume oil pump, repairing the strip fuel pump bolt hole, and a few other things.

Wish me luck. Maybe I’ll be there with a car for BSA.

You have a whole week! (And, don’t you have another Buick? Bright yellow?)

You've got this Gary! I hope all your planned repairs go smooth.

I have to finish driveshaft u-joints, replace the trans extension housing bushing and seal, replace the speedometer gear housing seals, put gear oil in the rear and rebuild the carb. If I have time I'd like to try polishing the glass on the car. There was a lot of metal in the gear oil when I pulled the diff cover. It really needs to be rebuilt but that will have to wait for a while.

I was planning on swapping the torque converter, but turns out the 12" converter I bought years ago is a 13". No clue why I never checked that. Oh well.

This might be an absurd question but can I bring a Buick from Hertz to race?

BSA is limited to V8 Buicks (with Buick, not corporate engines) built before 1981. (Logic is 1980 was the last year any Buick was available with a Buick v8).
The Nats bracket classes allow any car with Buick power-we’ve had LeSabres, Regals, Reattas, Grand Prix and other 3800 cars run, aling with fourth generation Camaros and Firebirds with the 3800. As for a modern rental car, I don’t know if a ‘corporate’ engined Buick cuts it. I suspect not.

I think they excluded rental cars from any of the races because years ago a rental won one of the major brackets and took home some nice cash and that car had a 3.8L in it.

Not trying to skirt any rules here, but can BSA cars run without a filter provided the original aircleaner is installed? I know most probably wouldn't bother with the risk for the extra 1 or 2 horsepower but I"m really looking for every little bit I can get to make it into the 13s while still staying within the rules.

    Thanks!

If it looks stock, then yes (and with the ‘67 unit, I get that you may have trouble finding a taller filter).

Made a mod to my air cleaner housing to allow for more air flow but look completely stock. Get with me on Friday to check it out.

If there is 8 rental cars, non buicks, or buick swaps i will make a bracket class for saturday. We need some filler for the later rounds anyway to give proper cool down in between rounds. So decision will be made once i see we have 8 cars or more for this seperate class.

I tried to get a taller K&N to work, but it doesn't fit right with my modified air cleaner base, it is probably fine for a stock starwars base though. I'm almost glad it didn't work for me though because those freaking filters are $150 now.

Definitely! What kind of aircleaner do you have? I have a starwars aircleaner. I was trying to think of ways to make it less restrictive at the track but I wouldn't want to modify anything other than the base since they are so pricey.

Mine is a stock looking plain black and somewhat rusty looking stock 70 ^ air cleaner with a rusty old chrome S1 lid on it. It goes with the "bone stock" look of the car.

Good afternoon BSA peeps! Today is Thursday, and we’re worried about rain Saturday.
We will have our first qualifying run at 12:30 TODAY, right after GSR. The really loud cars in the circle track).
To make a run, enter the circle track through the gap near the restrooms and go around the wall under the bridge by the tower. We will run a pro tree. To run, you need a race sticker from the main tent and tech inspection card turned in to the main tower.
We might run our eliminations on Friday to beat Saturday’s rain; we’ll discuss that at the driver’s meeting during Friday’s show.
Friday’s show is free; line up in the circle track on the west side of the open area.
I’m creating a text circle and will send a group text. If you don’t get it, send me your info (name, number, car and v8 handle).
