Share your sadness and wonder why things are like this (Re: 2015 Church Service:)

Dear Jerry and V-8 Buick spiritualists,

It is a very sad depiction of what our world has become especially for younger people. Yet I think our spirituality needs to be open enough to consider how the world of the second coming would include information technology in some form. Jesus would enjoy car ownership every bit as much as we do. The same applies to much of the technology created since the crucifixion. Nonetheless cars after Jesus returns will be very different in respects we all will appreciate. They won't pollute, they might not even require fuel, and accidents will simply be impossible.

Our technology seems like a window into what is so profoundly wrong in our emerging society. Never have human beings had such a multitude of people they can interact with, and yet, people have never been so lonely. Worst still, people at least should be as well educated as ever in human history - yet, people seem even more likely to make bad choices and suffer from them. It might appear that we are "drunk" in technology, but I don't think this is the case. Humanity is ever more desperate for human kindness we all need to be happy, but that happiness is harder and harder to come by no matter where or with what technology we look for it.

It truly is time for western civilization to do some serious soul-searching, but instead people muddle on hoping things will get better on their own. It just can't.

    Edouard

I notice every sunday the electronics that are in use during service. Instead of being a part of the childrens sunday school class, small children have their ipads sitting next to the parents playing games. Other adult on facebook and store sites, pinterest etc. Our pastor will make reference to the congregation when he notices alot of people with their heads down but he does it with a joking manner to get the attention.

My stepson visited one of the larger churches when he relocated downstate. He said it was more like a concert than going to church. If you were sitting in the congregation during a power outage you would have to end your sermon early and go home. Personally,I think big churches are a lot like big government, and often outgrow their usefulness. I also think if Jesus wanted a car he could have had one.
