Where was TA Performance? Well, we were helping Mike and the boys at AMP. So in a way, we were there. Mike faxed down a wish list. Worked out a deal, and made it as easy on AMP as we could. They are very good folks, those guys at AMP. Although, I haven't heard yet how it all played out.
final results: http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/challenge/2006/0610em_challenge_results_friday/ AM&P's pulls: http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/challenge/2006/0610em_challenge_results_thursday/ over 100pts down on the ave hp+tq over the testing range against the top motors. :ball: i am somewhat surprised that there weren't any 425 based Caddy's in this. course, i guess the Caddy guys are all about the cubic inches.
that's some great reading right there... :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: that W9 headed small block Mopar is wicked cool JH
Thanks for all the compliments and encouagement. I had not visited the board for a few weeks prior to the contest so I am sorry I did not pay thanks to those that wished us luck. Ian said it best about our chances of a good showing because of the expense of the contest without the engine being sold as it was the previous years. I had to fully fund this project out of pocket with the exception of a few sponsors, Federal Mogul with rings bearings and gaskets, Lazer with camshafts and last but not least Mike Tomaszewski T/A Performance who gave me a HUGE discount on parts that he supplied for this project. I could not have won the contest even had I sold the engine beforehand but I probably could have made my projected 700 HP. That being said I was not able to use a roller cam because of the cost. We used three flat tappet cams in testing and had we used roller cams the cost would have been another $2,500 that I just did not have to spend. I could have just stayed home as some of the competitors did when they were not making HP that they thought it would take but instead I went about it like I do with my customers. I built the best engine for the money I could afford to do and still FINISH and not be a DNQ. I placed in 23rd of 48 entries, (30 showed up) with if I am not mistakin is the baddest true pump gas 430 Buick on the planet, 646 HP 571 lb ft of torque. To put this in perspective the best 470 92 octane pump gas engine that I have done with less than 10.7 to one compression made 596 HP which is in Carl Creque's 3600 lb.Skylark and runs 10.40's all day long with 92 octane pump gas. Anyone can spout all those high HP numbers all day long but i'd like to hear the ET's in a car. I can't tell you the HP of Tom Rix's 9.50 140 MPH Top Stocker that we do with out his permission but I will tell you it is a far cry from 800HP. Again thanks for all the compliments and encouragement from you guys, and a special thanks to Mike and T/A Performance for the help. Oh by the way anyone interested in this beast give me a call. Mike Phillips Automotive Machine & Performance
Mike, you did great in holding up the Buick community. Everyone should be pleased that Federal Mogul, Lazer and T/A stepped up to the plate to support the cause. Automotive Machine and Performance and the Kentucky Krew have long been one of if not the best in customer service of any engine builder I know of. I take my hat off to you for doing it out of pocket this year. That is real Buick dedication. Congratulations!!
congratulations AMP For the time/$ and dedication to represent the Buick community. Awesome numbers from a 430. Can't wait to get my stage 2 motor from you. Later Greg
MIKE - EMC engine specs & price? Mike, First of all, congratulatiions on your excellant showing and thank you for your commitment to Buick performance. I checked out the AM&P website, but couldn't find any specifications (or an asking price) for this latest EMC engine. That tells me that the info isn't posted there, or that I just wasn't clever enough to find it (ver-r-r-r-y-y-y possible). So, how about posting the parts list, specifications, and asking price for that engine here at V8BUICK.COM and/or your website? I'll bet you'll be able to move it pretty quickly if the info was made easily available. Good luck and thanks again.
ya know, that sounds like a mighty fine OWM ( Open Wheel Modified ) engine ... how d'ya think it'd perform with a 650cfm 2v Holley on it? obviously, it wouldn't pull past 6,000 rpm very well so the car would have to be geared down. damn, who'd a thunk of using a Buick as a 'torque' motor? uzzled:
Spec and part info with itemized price Dan and the rest of the people interested in the information on the Engine Masters 434, i have put it all on my web site WWW.automachperf.com thanks again Mike Phillips AM&P
