I've been working on my wife's 2004 Impala 3400...it's starting hard.

Long story, but I think I rented a faulty fuel pressure gauge and/or used a wrong adapter, which showed low fuel pressure, so now I have a new fuel pump and filter on the car. I've also tried two regulators.

It still starts hard, unless I press the gas down about 1/8"; then it starts immediately. I know this makes no sense. It's not tripping any codes, but I'm wondering if anybody has any insight about why it would behave like that? Throttle position sensor, or IAC valve? Who knows with no codes?

It runs down the road fine with no surging or missing. It idles fine once it starts, with no missing.

Thanks for any insight into this issue!

My neighbor had a similar problem with their 97 Lesabre. Very hard to start. I had to pump the peddle some and it finally started and ran fine. I was thinking fuel system related, but it ended up being the ignition control module. Good luck

All we can give you over the net is educated guesses, and those can cost alot of money. Take it to a reputable shop and have them run diagnostics on it, they may charge you 75-100 bucks, but its still way less than a new pump, or any other parts you may throw at it.
