For some reason I seem to remember reading in an earlier post that cast iron would be better suited for a street engine- more efficient or something (despite the weight penalty). Am I way off base here?

A 455 Buick that is filled and girdled is about 235lbs +/- so it's more like 100lb savings.

Will you need a custom oil pan or would a stock pan clear those 4 bolt main on the front and rear main bearings?

    Liners!

Jim, good to see it with liners. They were not in at Indy. Jeff and I were wondering why they didn't put the ribs across the valley connecting each bank like so many aftermarket blocks you see. One thing is for sue, no more broken lifter bores.

Just curious... what keeps the liners from sliding up and down with the pistons???

The liners have a lip on the deck side and are pressed in, iirc.

    Heads!

The heads keep the liners in place. Some engines like the Northstar, with the heads off will push the liners up when rotated. This engine has dry sleeves, unlike the Northstar and others.

Jim, Dick did not feel the ribs were necessary. I had asked him the same question. yeah, the lifter bore area is very stout. Jim Burek

    Good Luck With It!

Jim I hope it turns out good. Maybe some day I can step up to that set up. I just wish there were some better heads and then we could get serious. My son just moved out your way. Maybe I can come by and see your operation when I get out that way.
