binaryeyes Oh where can my 'Lark be?

1975 Skylark S/R good running condition..everything is basic.

    Asking price is 8.5 grand.

    Good Price?

How fast would I be able to get it? Hp and Torque Wise?

    it's a 350 block.

For sale right down the road from my work place...baby blue paint (faded a bit but going to get a new paint job if I get it anyways)

the S/R model is the "rarest" of the x-bodies. it may be basic but still should have the cool options, like the bucket seats and center console. 8.5 g's is a decent price IF the body is rust free. you can get these cars as fast as your budget will let you. If you plan on getting faster then 13.00 in a 1/4 mile i highly recomend sub frame connectors as your first purchase. also remember when purchasing these cars, the first thing to look at are the 6 body mount bushings. the 2 closest to the rear are usually rotted out and need to be replaced.
get some pictures and post them, i'd like to see a 75 s/r

To tell the truth there is not that much rust...just a wee bit on the front left. Nothing to spot unless up close. No rust under the fendors..I looked in the engine bay and it was pretty clean and well mantained.

The only reason it's at the shop is for a A/C repair.

I'm pondering alot on wether or not to get this 75...or wait and get a 71 gs. Which would be better performance wise? (I'm sure the 71) but would it be hard to up the 75 to 71 specs?

I don't want to rain on your parade, but $8500 is alot of cash for a 75 Skylark, S/R or otherwise. That's probably more than it cost brand new.
It better be perfect and very low mileage if the seller is asking that much for it. NADA bluebook on a mint 75 Skylark with the 350 and A/C is just over $6000, fair condition drops that value to just over $2000.
Its a buyers market at the moment, so you can afford to be choosy about where you spend your money. Don't let your emotions talk you into spending more than you should for the car. If the seller is a used car dealer, he probably has less than $3000 invested in the car.
Post some pictures before you hand over the cash. I am sure the members here will give you a fair evaluation of what they feel the car is worth.
    Good luck, Randy

I'm planning on taking some pictures..but I've been sorta busy lately...the body looks pretty good. Not totally mint though..it's a private seller...a woman who says it was her dads. It has 33,000 miles on it.

It is probably a very nice car, but don't let yourself get talked into paying for the sellers sentiment for her fathers possessions. Check around on the used car websites like autotrader and collectorcar.com and see what the cars like it are really selling for in the marketplace. If the 75-79 Skylarks are bringing less money than what she is asking with comparable mileage and options, then tell her that and back it up with data from those websites. Lots of sellers start very high on price hoping to get lucky and find a buyer that has more money than sense.
Go into this deal armed with as much knowledge as you can, be prepared to wait it out if she won't drop the price right away, and NEVER be afraid to walk away if you can't negotiate the deal you want. Remember, the seller wants your money just as bad as you want the car.
Leave the emotions at home. Trust me, it doesn't matter if you are 15 or 70, all car guys get excited about some new car we have found from time to time. If you let it get to the "I gotta have it!!!" phase in front of the seller, you might as well kiss your money goodbye.
I did that once about 14 years ago. Traded in a 81 LeSabre 2dr hardtop and $1800 on a 66 chevy longbed pick-up that I just had to have. It wasn't even a nice one, just an old C10 with a 283 and a 3 speed column shift transmission. It was a sentiment deal all the way. The motor lasted less than a month before a head gasket blew and left me walking down the interstate. Needless to say I wasn't real popular with the wife for awhile.
I guess what I am trying to say is use your head. After all, thats why God put it there. Later, Randy

with these kinds of cars the only thing that determines the you get out of them is the money you put into them. thier are only a couple of slight differences between the 71 and 75. the 71 is a full frame car and 75 weighs about 300 pounds less. but if your gonna beef the 75 up your gonna put frame connectors in it anyway. the coil spring rear supension is better in the 71 but the braking and front suspension in the 75 is IMHO better. 6 in 1, half dozen in the other. A 71 is probably gonna cost you a few grand more to purchase just because of its popularity.

We bought this car off a guy on E-Bay, picked it up in Dothan, AL, he had bought it from the dealer in Texas. It's now in Tallahassee. I just recently put new shocks on it, and found a set of rallys at a swap meet with center caps.

The car DOES have only 34K miles on it, when the new wheels/tires went on, the inspection stickers from the assembly line were/are still on the rear drums. The front shocks were changed once years ago, but the backs were original (dated 74) delco spiral shocks... Interior is MINT other than faded carpet, and ONE small split on the side of the drivers bucket seat. Under body is RUST FREE as is the rest of the car!

Man put it up on E-bay with NO reserve and it closed on a Wednesday mid-day... I stole it for $2800.00. ALMOST feel guilty....ALMOST
