SOLD 1973 Century Gran Sport Stage 1 4spd Sun Coupe

    ****** S O L D *******

One of 9 Stage 1/4spd/Sun Coupe's built, and one of 5 w/air. Sloan documented.

Black with black vinyl top and white bucket interior. manual roof.
All numbers matching. Needs complete restoration. Rusty in all the usual '73 places, i.e, back window, rockers, etc. Trunk floor is rust stained but solid.
Purchase will include a second '73 Gran Sport parts car with little to no rust. Lots of extra parts (see pics).
Selling this package of both cars and all parts for a good friend of mine who passed away last June. His widow has just decided she can't keep all his cars, and is very motivated to sell these.
Please no comments on what you think they're worth, or they're condition unless you intend to make a legit offer.
I'll try to answer all questions, so ask away. Please ask questions within this thread. No PM's. That way everyone interested can see the answers.

Update: I looked the cars over pretty good on 2-23-2014.

The Sun Coupe will need a drivers floor pan for sure. The frame is scaly, with the paint flaking off, but is not rusty and is solid. The car will also need work to repair rust at the bottom of the back glass and possibly some cowl work. The roof looks bad, but I could not find any soft spots, so it may be ok under the vinyl with some body work to clean it up. Same goes for the sliding panel. The sun roof pan appears solid. There must be a gear stripped inside the crank mechanism as I could not get the handle to turn. The trunk floor is rust stained, but solid and would not need to be replaced. Could not find the air cleaner anywhere, and I don't know for sure if there was one with the car when Pat bought it. There is a Hurst shifter and boot in the car. Overall while the car looks pretty bad in the pics, it's definitely a restorable car.

The green parts car is really too good to cut up. There is no rust on it anywhere I could find. Even the vinyl top was pretty smooth. What little I did see is very minor. Again, the car is really too nice to cut up. Someone could easily transfer all the Stage1/4spd/sunroof bits onto this car and end up with a neat, although incorrect car.

As for all the extra parts Pat had accumulated, I took pics of everything, and they're now included with the pics of the Sun Coupe. LOTS of interior bits. These cars only came with white buckets when buckets were ordered, and like previous years the white plastic bits are subject to serious checking. Fortunately the pieces Pat had gathered are mostly in excellent shape. There are a bunch of bits in the boxes which I did not layout for pics, but what you can see looks pretty good. The seats themselves are in excellent shape and just need cleaning. You can see from the pics, that there's one set of good seats, and the other set (which probably came from the Sun Coupe) are solid but need recovering. I could not find the second set of buckets.

There are a handful of NOS parts included, such as the bumper guards and some interior pieces.

    Update: 6-13-2014.

There's now an extra 455 to go with the sale.

Asking price for everything is $8,000 if you pick it all up NOW, or $9,000 plus $200/month for storage if you can't pick it up right a way, or make an offer.
Cars are for sale locally, so first person to step up gets 'em.
Cars and parts are in Forney, TX, northeast of Dallas. Shipping and transport will be your responsibility.

Again, she is very motivated to get these cars/parts GONE. Any offer will be considered.

Interesting car but a few questions is the data plate held on with screws correct? Is the top an electric or manual crank? Any extra sheet metal parts?
Is this car out of Chicago by chance?

Pretty sure the date plates screws are correct as I've seen several discussions about them on this board.
    Top is manual crank.
All the extra sheet metal is on the parts car. It does look like the doors on the Sun Couple have been swapped out some time in its past.
yes, I think Pat did buy the car out of Chicago, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

I ask because I saw a car like this sell from the flipper John in Chicago many years ago. Now that car was in St Louis for a time but I am not sure itsa the same. If memory serves me it was triple black. Mike S looked at at once and thought it was too rusty to deal with. Last I heard the xcar was still in my area so if I am right in my remembering then there is a black with white guts and a triple black Suncoupe stage 1 4 spd:) Oh and I was quoted 25k for that car when I last spoke to the owner

Just confirmed this car did come from John B., so it may be the same car you remember.

Put me in line. Could use some more pics, etc. I am extremly interested in this car. Price negotiable? How bad is she? Mike S. if u can fill me in on what u saw I would apreciate it. Is the roof toast? Looks like a hole in the sunroof itself. Seems like a huge job to restore. The vin tag in your picture is a F code car is that the Parts car?

Yes Phil, I had heard this morning you were interested.
Links to pics are in the first post.
    Negotiable? Yes. Open to offers.
Anything else I can do to help, get more pics, etc. just ask and I'll do what I can.
Would love to see this car get into a collection like yours and not get scrapped.

Thanks Dean, I just called John C to take a look at the thread when he has a chance. I am sure there will be some questions, etc. Would love to see this car saved also. Now it is just finding out if it is not too far gone and what it would take $ wise to do. Do you know if any #'s on the car match? (IE;Motor, trans, rear) I will try not to take long in making a decision and negotiating a fair price if interested.

Sorry Dean I am out. Too much for me to handle. Thanks. Hopefully someone will pick it up, it is the holy grail of 73's (Sun Coupe-4 speed) Sad to see.

I have a 73 4speed @ T&N now as u know. I would love to do this car, but #1 MONEY, #2 If the roof is gone also that entails getting a new roof installed from ASC plus having a decent donor car plus a million other details. I have NOS quarters and NOS front fenders and numerous other spares, not enought to build a whole car! Last time I purchased a donor car intended for my Rat 4speed it was so nice, rare, clean and totally rust free I could not bear to swap VIN's and #'s matching Tranny into it, (The car is a perfect match, color and interior) instead it became my F/S car and the 4speed stays a good driver and rough as it is, it is still the car that came from the factory. Dean: I would be embarrased to make an offer, and after some thought I am not interested in a car I have to VIN swap with a donor. Thanks.

Did you get this from Mike in St. Louis? If so I have the Original doors in my basement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Apparenltly this car has been around, so it's entirely possible you have the doors off it.
Is the door jamb sticker still on the driver's door? What are the last 6 digits of the VIN on the sticker?

Sorry to hear Pat passed away. Way too early, and very sudden/unexpected from what I heard.
Pat was in contact with me several times over the last couple years to chat about 73's.

What happened to the silver 73 Pat had?

This black suncoupe came from Mike Massa(sp?) and before that John Bernardi owned it. Don't know who else has had it, but it was from the St Louis area, and maybe Chicago at one point.

Mike had 3 at one time and I got 2 from him. I just called him and he said he sold it to the guy in Chicago and then it went to Texas.

Tom I was told just yesterday the silver car was sold. I'll have to find out where it went.
