I have a 1971 Skylark convertible. Does anyone have any pictures showing the how the front top bow ( the one closest to the header ) is installed ? Mine was unattached and i have no hardware for it . There is a metal bow that gets screwed to the frame on both sides, A metal retainer that somehow attaches to the bow , and 4 rubber shims that attach somewhere . I have searched every manual and there are no clear illustrations showing any of this. I have searched on here also, and found nothing. Any help on this would be great. I really need some kind of diagram showing the hardware used ,and placement of the shims . Thanks.

The '71 "Fisher Body Service Manual" is invaluable for convertible top-related adjustments and issues...you should have one. As for question...two screws each side up thru tab on side rail, thru shim(s)*, thru bow into threaded retainer...if I understand "retainer".

*Shims adjust height of top fabric over windows.

I do have a 1971 Fisher Body manual, but it seems very vague as far as adjustments and illustrations.Maybe there is another book available.

Look at page 12-22 (figure 12-33) for ft bow view. Manufacturer's manuals not like generic Chilton's etc...assume working knowledge up to referenced section. Apologies...those of us familiar with these sometimes assume everyone at same level...persevere...info there, just not as thoroughly explained...

OK, they aren't great pics but you get the idea. There are two tabs, one off each side, see arrow on first pic. These tabs have holes in them (two each). The bow sits on top of rubber "plates" (two on each side) and two screws run through the tabs and the rubber and secure the bow, which is threaded to receive the screws (see arrow second pic). This is all I have right now, car is together and in storage right now so hope these help. Its harder to see once top is on anyway. The rubber "plates" are about 1/8" thick each.

I have no idea why two layers of rubber are used and not one (or three), or why not one thicker piece?? This sets the height of the bow I guess but why rubber...?? Not sure...
