I just rebuilt the 350 for my 70 Skylark. I plan on installing it with a Muncie four speed that I bought for it. The plan is to install the motor transmission and headers all together at once. Has anyone done that before. Should I install it without the headers, or can it be installed with the headers?
    Thanks

I would lay the headers in the engine compartment. Tie them up to the sides, then install the engine/trans together. Then bolt the headers up.

Ain't gonna work. Put the engine in without the headers. Lay the engine in then install the headers after. Remove one motor mount bolt and tilt the engine off each mount and install the headers

I notched the last bolt hole on my headers for my iron headed 455. Set the motor and trans in with headers sitting in the engine bay.......when it was close I would slide the header over the back bolt, finish sliding the assembly in the bolt uo the rest of the stuff

Put it in without the headers.
Theres tons of room to install from the bottom, which is how you have to do it anyway. The right side is the roomiest (believe it or not)

    Guys thanks
I put the motor in and then installed the headers the way buick64203 recommended. That worked really well. Last problem now is how do I get at those hard to reach bolts. Ta performance is hardware we're 12 point bolts. Did you guys bend a wrench to do it?

Joe - Did you lay the headers in the compartment first?

Carefully, slowly, 1/16 of a turn at a time. Long thin box end wrench. You won't enjoy it.....

No you won’t enjoy it, it’s a bitch for sure, I bought a ratshitting box wrench, that helps some, and also going on the drivers wheel well with a 1/4 drive ratshit, that works a bit too.

I bought a cheap combo wrench, cut it in half (cut off the open end) and ground it thinner on the box end. Worked well. This is for those choice header bolts.

The more I read this the gladder I am that I don't put headers on my 455s. Only lost 15 HP over ported stock manifolds. (Thanks, Jim) :D

I tried laying the headers in first and put the motor in. Turned out to be a huge s*** show. Wound up punching a hole in the evaporator box trying to do it that way. Got disgusted took the headers out and just install the motor and transmission. Was easier just to rock the motor on the motor mount bolts and install the headers.

You guys are nuts installing regular 6 point 7/16 head header bolts. Its an exercise in frustration. Do yourself a favor and get a set of ARP header bolts with the 12 point 3/8 head. So much easier.
