1970 Skylark GS - Trunk wiring clips, should they be painted body color?

Should the clips that attach to the weatherstrip channel at the back of the trunk (closest to the bumper) be painted the color of the body? These clips are used to hold the wiring for the side marker lights.

I understand the trunk latch and base where installed before paint and were subsequently painted the color of the car.

Just not sure if the clips were installed before paint, or after.

Yes they were on body when Fisher body painted exterior of car.

So top surfaces of clips will be body color, lower hidden areas will be black zinc or gray phos plated or just paint flat black.

Speaking of these clips, does anyone have a set of 4 they would sell?
I need a set of 4 rustfree clips for a customers car.
    Thanks

The clips are 1970 only. In 1971 clips are welded to the trunk.

The reproduction clips have a large hole in showing side of clip, which is incorrect for 1970.
    Still looking for clips.

    Richard,
Todd has reproduction clips that are basically spot on to the original clips Clip 1.jpg Clip 2.jpg Clip 3.jpg . I've taken a few pictures of my original clip next to the reproduction. Can you spot any difference?

Thanks for posting pics, last time on Todd's site upper part of clip had a hole in it, but those clip pics you have posted here are correct.
I will inquire again with Todd.
    Thanks

    Richard,

I have located three of the four. I know the other is around here - like a painted coin - it keeps showing up.

How many clips are you guys seeing on original 1970 Models ??

I've seen some cars with 2 (1 on each side) and some cars with 4 (2 on each side)

Wondering what you guys with original cars have ?

My brothers original, untouced 71 GSX has 4 clips welded to the underneath side of the aft lip of the trunk surround. See picture.

On a 70, I believe there are only two used. Not positive..

four clips per car - '71 -'72 cars have non-removable clips.

I checked several unrestored 1970 models and all of them had four (4) clips, 2 on each side.

Yes, the inside 90* angle has a more square look to it on the repro.
