Does anyone know the best length for the speedometer cable on a 1970 Skyark GS with a manual transmission? The cable in my 4-speed is 72", but there are no markings so I'm unsure if it's original. The factory assembly manual says 70", but this page of the assembly manual has been crossed out with a note saying "Delete per ECR #74616. I'm getting a couple speedometer cables made, and even with the retaining clips the 72" cable comes perilously close to the 2 1/2 exhaust.

two types were used. Does your trans have a side adapter? If no then 70" is correct. If side adapter then 57". Also do you have the two cable holding clips on your trans. If yes then 70" with no side adapter.

It also matters if you have cruise control or not, no?

I had a 72" cable made, which fit nicely and installed nicely too. No, I do not have the side right angle adapter.

I believe that 70" is a bit too short, as the two fewer inches makes removing it from the speedometer difficult.

Also, the two retaining spring clips that attach to the bottom bolts of the transmission are critical for keeping the cable away from the exhaust pipes. Thanks to Nick Servo for making these, as I melted my original speedo cable on the exhaust pipes, which sent me down this road of removal and replacement.
