Have a 1970 Buick Skylark. The car currently has disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear. According to the paperwork I have on the car the car originally came with power brakes. I do not believe it came with disc brakes originally. the brake system I have currently does not have the hold off valve, off the master cylinder. Is this something that I'm going to need to add. I also don't have the original master cylinder I have a replacement master cylinder. The replacement master cylinder has the bigger chamber in the front and the smaller chamber in the rear. Thanks Joe
It depends on if the distribution block was replaced with a 71+ unit that has the hold off valve built in. Is it braking poorly?
Brakes felt hard. Thought that was a break boaster issue. Car is now apart motor out so this is a good time to address this issue. I believe there is two ways I can go with this. Bring it back to stock configuration with the metering valve on the master cylinder and distribution block. Or install a distribution block with the built in proportional valve. Since I am putting in full length headers I am wondering if I am going to have header fit issues with the stock configuration. Thanks for the advice
I have installed plenty of after market headers on all the GM Abodys....it does make it a bit more difficult to service the proportional valve. But I would still install them in the stock locations.....the after market redirectional proportional valve up by the brake booster is just ugly looking to me in the engine compartment. JMO.
