Am I bidding against anyone on the forum for this baby? Seller says he can't prove it's a real Stage 1 but was told by the previous owner that it was. Non-matching drivetrain and no docs. But, I'd love to own it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/284914393624
Nice car, add says it was converted to 4speed when it was "GSX" cloned. Wonder what the Fisher tag shows for paint and trim?
He says it was 10 10 on the trim tag with black buckets.. Has a nice engine build. 4 speed with no air and a 3.55 12 bolt posi. I'll be there at the end with a bid. Anyone in the Marshfield, Massachusetts area that can take a look at it for me?
I bid on it early but stopped when it reached my limit. If it was an original motor Stage 1, my limit would have been higher. You can order the Sloan report to verify if it is an original Stage 1.
Paint is 10 10 Trim is 188 If someone wanted to make an authentic looking Apollo White GSX replica, this is is the car to use. Looking at the Sloan docs and that was a really low optioned Stage 1 since it only has these options: Bucket seats (deluxe interior) Stage 1 TH400 Full length console White wall tires G78-14 Rallye ride control package Rallye steering wheel Sold car (ordered) So this car had no radio, manual steering, manual brakes, no A/C, standard 14x6 black painted steel wheels with dog-dish hubcaps, no tinted glass (not even the windshield), no side moldings, std dash without gauges, etc. One of the lowest optioned '70 Stage 1s I've ever seen.
Yes, so it was probably ordered that way 'cause the buyer intended to race it. The 4 speed had to replace the T400 sometime later in its life. Pretty unusual GS with a MSRP of a bit less than $4000.
I think it's a neat car as a GSX replica but it would also be great if it was in the original configuration. Either way, a cool Buick. Interesting that it was sold new at Len Immke Buick too.
I used to own this car, probably 15+ years ago. This statement is not true: THIS CAR WAS CONVERTED TO A GSX TRIBUTE BY THE SAME BUICK DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT. AT THAT TIME IT WAS ALSO CONVERTED TO A 4 SPD. The dealership may have done the GSX conversion, but I bought the car from Scott Miller, and he did the 4 speed conversion. He was finishing it when I bought it. Unfortunately I was using a different email address then, so I don't have all the info from when I did own it. When I had it, I am pretty sure I had the engine rebuilt, probably around 2007? I sold it to Mark Lob, he sold it to a dealer in MN (Randy Peck), who sold it to Wayne Emmott from TX (was/is a member here). Mark did change the cam in it when he had it. Wayne listed it for sale the first time in 2009. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/70-gs-stage-1.182233/#post-1445934. Unfortunately my thread on the car (link in above thread) appears to be no longer valid. I think it got lost in one of the V8Buick software changes. Don't know if it can be reinstated or not? I think Wayne had it for sale again around 2016, and a couple of TX members looked at it, but didn't buy it. It later sold either on eBay or to a dealer or both, I can't recall.
Brian, I have no idea. I don't even know if the dealership really did the conversion, or if that is just sales hype now. IIRC, when Scott M. bought it, it had a Stage 2 motor in it.
Found these photos from when Warren had the car for sale. Must be faster to remove fenders, doors and quarter panels to add black stripes to a 10 10 car.
No, the winner got it for $55,095 which was beyond my limit. But, the seller has already emailed me that the winner has already defaulted. I decided with the shipping cost, Florida sales tax and the cost of a Vintage Air system it was more than I wanted to spend. If I lived closer and didn’t need AC, I would have bid higher.
