According to Mike T's quick reference guide to the Daily Car Reports the number is 193 Hardtops - 22 Convertibles. The breakdown is specifically noted. The hardtop number may include GSX cars.

    Does it specify Stage 1?

I stand corrected. My copy does not have that page. I must have an older version.

I was right though :) less that 285!

Interesting tho...more stage 1 4 speeds came with no air than with

Especially considering they were considered "luxury" musclecars.

Got the answer from Marco for 1970 Stage 1, 4-speed cars with A/C; 193 coupes, and 22 convertibles!

Funny this question has been brought up because I know of one with A/C that I'd like the owner to sell to me. So far, no luck.

Rather not say because it's not a lost cause yet and I don't want to miss out on it if he does decide to sell. I'll just say it's an east coast car.

That's what I like about the low option (mostly) 4-sp. cars - Very un-Buick. Likely ordered for one reason only & by a select few who somehow knew...

Oh, plus they're easier to restore:).

I don't think I ever saw a '70-72 A-body Buick w/o A/C, let alone w/o PS until the 1st time I went to the Nationals in May '85 (I was only 18 y/o & still in HS). That June I stumbled across a '70 350 4-sp. stripper (bench seat, no A/C, manual steering) and had to have it. Have since had the pleasure of owning 4 such '70 manual steering/no AC GS's - 2 ea. Stage 1/PDB/buckets & 350/bench/manual brakes. Ironically all 4 different variations of Sherwood Green.

In a way the GN's/T-Types were the same way. Many if not most people didn't buy them because they were Buicks. They bought them because they were the fastest (affordable) car on the market at the time. They sold well because they were much more publicized at the time than were GS's plus they stood out way above the "performance" car crowd at the time. Of course '80's and performance with the exception of the Turbo Buicks is an oxymoron.

Of all the 4-sp. Stage 1's that I know of that were for sale over the past 4 years or so since I got back into all this (prob. close to 50 - In '16-17 there were a slew of 'em) I only recall very few having A/C. The only non GSX one I recall off hand was the blue "trailer hitch" car which was highly optioned. There may have been 1 or 2 others but definitely not many for whatever reason considering almost ⅓ of them came with A/C.
