Does anyone know how to cut the hole (or holes) to install the control button for the driver's side power bucket seat lower seat bases? 1. Is it a round hole so that just the control knob protrudes, with two seperate holes for phillips screws? Or, 2. Is it a rectangular hole (about 2" x 1") that the chrome trim which houses the control knob is fully exposed?
No guessing please, I want to get it correct.
    Thanks

I can get you a pic from a 1970 seat this weekend if it would help

It is a small round hole...that is all there is to it...once you have that, you can drill two 1/8 dia holes for the retaining screws.

Just to confirm what George said..it's just a round hole and the control post just protrudes out from it. Yes, it seems odd...the whole chrome diecast plate surrounding the control post gets hidden behind the plastic. Probably because it was the same mechanism used on another model (maybe a bigger car) that had a more "stylish" look with the chrome plate on the outside.

The hole for the control post is approx 3/4" diameter or so....maybe someone can measure one and post measurements.

I will check my buckets skirt stash..... I know I have one with p.seat opening......will post measurements later....also, just a note...full size models used the 6 way switch and not the 4 way....so you can't use the full size switch in an A-body.

Here are a couple of pics.......switch is located 6.5" back from the front "bend" and it is 1" from where the vertical portion flares out towards the door panel.

I never installed the skirts that cover the p.seat mechanism/tracks...that is why you can see it in the pics.

I am now having trouble making the mechanism travel far enough to the front and rear. Looks like the range of travel is about 6 inches short in each direction. I wonder if the power seat unit that I have (which if for a 1972 by the date code label on the motor) may be incorrect for a 1970 GS. Any suggestions????
    Thx

I think travel overall is 6-8".

Run the p.seat on your workbench to make it moves freely.

I have tested the mechanism and it works fine...but as you stated it does not have much travel. For example, the passanger side seat, which is just a manual seat, has a much greater range of travel, at least 5 inches in each direction. I am 6ft 3in and the farthest back that the power seat goes will not give me much room to drive the car. Don't know what to do now, just might have to go with manual tracks....your thoughts. Could I possible have the wrong unit for the A- body car?

I have a complete set of very nice black bucket seat trim pieces w/ the power seat (holes) ... if you need me to take some measurements .... or need to buy a set (I am getting ready to list them).

    Tony,
I am 6-3 also and I fit but barely........did you compare the pic of your mechanism to the one I have on our site.
    Let me know.

George, just checked your website (it is great) and I do have the correct 68-72 power seat assembly. I'll just have to go thru the process again, I did bench check it before the install and it worked fine. I guess that it is, what it is, and I'll just have to adapt to it. Thanks for all of your advise and help.

I am looking for a 4 way bucket seat switch for my 70 GS. Can anyone direct me where I might find one? My switch is very sloppy and has trouble making the contacts.
    Thanks
