Be sure to check these for Cracks . . . . . 8 out of 10 of these things crack! (Always in the same Spot)

I normally have some on hand but am currently sold out.

I have one if Fred doesn’t. How much does a re-plated latch with no crack sell for?

So where do these latches crack?

Todd's correct - mine was cracked.

Not trying to hijack Marc's thread but they crack here:

I'll have to check all mine.

Again, not to hijack but there was some discussion awhile back about there being a slight difference bet. '70 vs. '71-2 latches. Is this true or maybe just a difference between suppliers/assy. plants?

I have die grinded some in the past and touched up with mig. U can save them. Polish out weld when done and replate Don’t toss them out

I knew they could be fixed. I don't toss anything anymore. Wish I had all the parts cars back from back in the day.

Thanks for the Pictures Brett! He's right, that's where they always crack. We weld them up prior to re-plating. Probably stronger in the long run!

I believe I was doing these for around $65 AFTER plating them. (no core at that price)

I will possibly have some.... In mid May...

$65 is a deal on those. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to prep those. Soak in hot tank, pressure steam clean to get the hardened grease out of the crevices and bead blast to a shine. My platers prices went up even on silver and gold cad. I may do another run but I’m out of cores and garage time seems to be getting less n less these days.

I am still looking for a latch. I have a very nice one with no cracks that needs to be plated to trade.

I just had 6 concours restored..... Only to find 5 out of the 6 were CRACKED!!! at $110 EACH... My own fault for NOT inspecting them prior to sending out... So no one to blame except for myself... Although the plater tack welded 2 or 3 of them prior to plating...

If you are interested in a concours restored, correct gold CAD plated latch (with a crack) for $105 SHIPPED, let me know....

Pic? Curious how the plating looks.

If you know someone that can tig weld they can get in there and weld the crack with pretty minimal damage to the plating in that one little area. They won't be "Perfect" but still plenty presentable and no longer cracked . . . . .
    Just an idea.

Thanks Todd... I had 6 done as I thought I would eventually own another 6... However, that is no longer the case.. So I would rather sell some of them...

I was asked to post some pics of replated latches… and educate on where they crack… here you go.
