Hello, started my bucket seat cover replacement and noticed I have a broken spring. Outside of purchasing an entire seat base does anyone know where I can get a replacement spring. First picture is what it should look like. 2nd & 3rd are the broken one. Also, is it typical that the 2 center springs sit up about 3/4” higher then the outers or are the springs really worn. It a 60k mile car.

    Thanks,

I just bought a set from Legendary.

The confirmation email says 17 days until I hear something.

Don't bother trying to save a spring. Just get the new bottom set from them. This will be one of those upgrades you can't get out of on the cheap.

    Ask me how I know......

Also, you can buy a length of the "S" spring and maybe bend it to your application.

Hi, those are the side springs that I already replaced last year since one was broken and now I noticed this long one is broken too. I think my plan is to take apart the passenger seat and see how that compares to the drivers side and then decide whether to replace one or both bottoms.

I wonder who Legendary sources for these. You can find dynacorn for $75 on ebay or TWE from SS396 for $90 in stock and available. I know legendary Carry’s high quality products but you would think there’s only a few manufacturers but you never know.

Go to Ames. They have many diff. types of springs for the A-Body cars. Just did a '63 Riv. that had a couple broken springs & used some from a full size Pontiac. The diff. manufacturers used MANY of the same parts.

The most correct seat back and bottom spring sets come from Sundell 704 434 6759. But, like Tom said, ask someone who does these seats and they may have old sets or pieces you can use. I just don't know if you can bend them to fit that application. Maybe with some heat but that might take out the annealing.

I was thinking the side spring is close to what you need. Worse case you can use a clip and attach a piece to what you have. Just overlap them at least an inch.

Do not buy uppers unless they've made some drastic changes. While my repro lowers were closer to OEM, and quite comfortable, they also made unwanted noises. My suggestion would be to replace only whatever is actually broken.

Like I said, the repros that Sundell sells are different from others I've seen and very accurate. No noises in my seats, at least not from the seat!

Albrights Supply in Mississippi will have the zig zag springs. There are 2 gauges. Measure first.

They also have the attachment clips and edge wire if needed.

Repair yours. The complete replacement sets will have you sitting up too high when it's finished.

Ben Rambo, the Seat Guru can supply you with pre bent components if you don't want to bend your own

Thanks Scott, Drivers side seat back also has a broken spring. It’s almost like the original owner liked to hug the door side of the seat.

Those spring sets are WAY TOO CLEAN to warrant replacing...and you do risk getting the "ill made" new spring sets a lot of the vendors sell. Not remotely worth the chance. Sundell no longer makes/sells these according to my last conversation with them.

The pic in your last posting (right above my posting here).....that break is somewhat inconsequential from what I can see...the part that is broken in the pic is just part of the spring that the headrest post anti-rub/rattle grey plastic tab is hog ringed to. You may be able to bridge the split with one of metal sleeve couplers.

In the second and third pic in your first post here all I can see is that the bent/formed end of that spring has slipped out of the slot/pocket it's supposed to go in.....you should be able to manipulate it back into place.

These are 50 plus year old springs. Why are we mincing words here, fellas - for one spring?

This ain't rocket science. By the time you've finished replacing one spring, one of the others will have **** the bed.

Get the spring set from Legendary and wait 3 weeks like I am. Maybe you'll sit higher (which I don't mind) but it will eventually squash.

    Thanks Scott.

I connected with Ben today and he’s going to make me 2 replacement springs for my seat as he recommended I change both sides so the seat is even and also making me a repair spring for the seat back. $20 plus shipping. He also sent over this information which is helpful to see what to look for when repairing springs. Great Contact. The Seat-Guy: Classic seat restoration. On Facebook.

The passenger side bucket seat & the rear seat in my '72 GS when I purchased it in 2000, look as if they had never been sat in. Now the driver seat was a different story! I replace all the seat covers with black vinyl. I disliked the sandlewood color.
I did have to replace the whole seat spring set in the driver seat a few years later. Think I purchased it from Year-1
