    Question....

I have a set of NOS 70 BB ram air seals, and one orphan NOS ram air seal (not sure how I misplaced the other).

I retained the original wrapping for the set and the part number on the GM wrapper is #138614. This set has yellow-ish foam with a gray coating that is essentiall smooth. The height is 2 3/8".

The "orpan seal" (I do not have original GM wrapper) I got from Dave Kliener years ago is shaped slightly different from the set, greenish foam, and has a more rubberized feel to the sides than does the yellow-ish foam set. The height is 2 3/8".

I've seen more of the yellow-ish foam seals on what I know are original cars, than the greenish set. I'm sure foam color degrades over 40+ years which could account for some color discrepancies. However, the sides of the green-ish set is definetly thicker, and more rubberized. Importantly, none of the seals I have mentioned in this post have seen the light of day for decades.

Were there two different versions made? Perhaps two different manufacturing runs? Could the greenish set be an early reproduction?

Seems the NOS I've seen over 35 years are all the green type. I have a couple sets. Will have to look.

Not to hijack your thread (will delete if you want) but I need to eventually cut one pair down to the correct height for a 455. Methods? Initial thought is a hot wire like I've seen for cutting foamboard insulation.

Dano, mark the seals at the right height, fold, cut in a band saw using a fence with a fine blade. Works perfect.

    Nearing,
The oddball seal you have is a reproduction.

If you look at the outside shape of your original and compare it to the repro, you will see the difference.

Look specifically at the top 2 corners of the pic with both styles in the picture.
