well I picked myself up an estate wagon with a smooth running 455. It doesn't move the car as fast as I thought it would, but after a rebuild I think it could be a fast one! I will try and get some pics up later today of the beast. She is creamy yellow colour with a white roof and the woody siding. Brown interior is in great shape with original buick 8 track tape player still clinging to the dash! Happy to own my first buick. The Plan:To use the 455 eventually in a skylark. Then hopefully use the skylarks 350 to power the wagon as an extra driver.

I think you'd be greatly dissapointed with a 350 in there. I've got a '73 Estate, and a tune up really woke it up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor gone through and power timed, and carb rebuild. It takes some time, but its defenitely worth it. The wagon starts and runs better than all of the family dailys.

Yeah I might tune her up for now but the 455 will go in to get rebuilt and aiming for a 500 hp motor down the road. the only reason I would try to put the 350 in the wagon is because the only reason I bought the wagon was to take the 455/th400 out for a Skylark.

What's wrong with putting the 500 HP engine back in the wagon?

'70 Estate Wagons are a one-year only body style and I think, much better looking than the clamshell wagons (71-76).

What condition is the rest of the car in ?? If you're not into wagons that fine, but if it is in good enough shape and you bought it cheap you may be able to make enough selling it (whole - with its original motor) to buy a 455 that needs rebuilding ... since you're going to build it anyways :Do No:

Thank you! Ohh no doubt that the wagon would be fun with the rebuilt motor. It is in great shape except for a dent in the drivers quarter and the frame in a little rusty but the car is in great shape other than that. I did buy the car just for the 1970 455 to hopefully put in a 1970 skylark. I didn't want to put a 73 or other year into a 1970, even though it could be built up to power. Parts up here in Canada are hard to come by. Although I have found an E head 1970 455 olds 390hp from a toronado for 500 dollars but I want a 1970 skylark so that wouldnt work.

The wagon would be perfect to race etc but the frame infront of rear wheel arches is starting to rust through. Can that be fixed? The wagon is starting to grow on me...

First I have to say I like the wagon a lot! Cool colors and looks like a nice straight body. Could you imagine smokin ricers and yuppies in beemers with a car like that? I think they'd cry all the way home! There looks to be room for a procharger and intercooler under that hood

As for the frame, I really can't tell how bad it is from the pic but yes, it can be fixed. It doesn't seem serious from the pic. Have you tried to see how soft the metal is? Tap it with a hammer?

Oh and I don't understand the GS front clip. How will that fit on an Estate wagon? Sportwagon I can understand.

I wasn't sure if the GS front would work on that either, front of the wagon seems way longer and wider to me than a GS. Anyway yes I tried to see how soft the rusted frame was and I can poke my finger through parts of that rusted area... and it would be sweet to roast ricers in this haha, could you imagine their faces, PRICELESS

Nice car. I like the color combo. IMO definately worth fixing. Of course I'm a sick man...

BTW what's all of the funny white powder all over it?

Hahah ohh the snow came free with the car.... The rest of Canada is buried under feet of snow but on the west coast this is all we got, gives the car an extra cool-ness factor doesn't it?

Welcome to the 455 world. Blake
I have a couple of wagons. I also have a 73 Century U code 455 hardtop I'm installing a 1972 455 out of a 63,000 mile original Le sabre 4 dr I just bought. Car was from Grants Pass Or. :TU: I think we need to exchange some pictures. I also have a 1970 455 that was rebuilt locally that I pulled from a 1970 Electra 2-dr. I just think breaking up an original Wagon hurts!

Hey Derek, glad to see another western canadian. I know breaking up the wagon sounds horrible, and now I am starting to feel that I shouldn't. That means I would have to find another 455 or just put on hold my dream of having a 455 Skylark for know. It is so hard to find/get parts and cars, they are all down south. Do you guys have much for cars lying around in Alberta? Send me some pics of your wagons . I might keep my wagon together but it has some quarter panel damage and I do not know where to find the wood grain stuff to fix it, so I might just rip the wood off and paint the whole car.

    nastynavy Prof. parts collector!

Wow that wagon is awsome. As clean as it is I would keep that together especially being a 70 (1 model year) car. You should be able to get another car with a 455 in it to part out.

yea that's an easy fix compared to my 64 lesabre, mine was soo bad I hessitated doing it myselft and took it to the frame shop, cost 450...my lesabre frame...was literely nothing left from the axle back..
you could just try and fill the holes then plate that up and call it a day, then buy some hurculiner for the whole frame :TU:

the rear frame was pretty much just the top slab and back bottom and sides were gone!
surprised the ass end wasnt saggng but i did notice the quarters splitting right begine the window where it met the trunk!
