Hi, as a few of you know, I recently bought a shop and found a camaro and a lot of other stuff buried. I have recently learned that besides the buried camaro, there is a buried SS427 Impala 4 speed.....67 I think. A 63 impala in annv. gold wrecked in the front, a 50s something plymouth with suicide doors, and something else, but the guy couldnt remember. I talked to the guys that was actually paid to bury them. So, that means Im going back to dig because apparantly there is more hidden treasure besides an X22D80 camaro Ok here is what this thread is about. The old fellow that I bought the place from said "come over here, I want to show you something." I walked over to his tool box and he pulled out 4 emblems. 2 Z28 emblems and 2 427 turbo jet emblems. He said that he pulled them off a copo camaro that was totaled out. They look almost new with part numbers on them. He said the car was hit very hard in the side with less than 5000 miles on it. He said it was a 69. The next really cool thing is that he said he used to drag race all the time. He told me that he ordered a 70 camaro from the chevy place and ordered it in primer. He said the paint code was "X". He had a wreck on the track in 72 and totaled the car. He told me that the car was at his house and it went with the shop if I want it. He has the order form, the window sticker, and some other docs that he kept. Whats a 70 X code car worth? Its also a Z28? Any ideas? I plan on keeping all of this stuff, but Id still like to know what its worth. Thanks very much in advance. Here are some pic of the emblems. Maybe in week or two I can drive down and get some pics of that X code car.
Check out the spoiler on that '70 Z very closely, and grab the build date off the trim tag...being an odd order for hi-po use, it very well may have the COPO rear spoiler...long shot, but who knows. As for the SS396 Camaro w/spoilers, it would be a good score if it was an L78 car...:beer
if its buried in dirt for the past 30 yrs.. there cant be much left... ...although I would love to see pictures of whats uncovered if thats the case...
I would love to see pics of the Impala, especially if it is a 1967 ss427. A true rare car. The domed hood alone is worth good money.
Yeah it was a bad business deal that happened about 35 years ago. Something involving 3 parties and the bank. Anyways to make a long story short, the guy just burried them behind the shop. Ive already dug up a 69 camaro and working on a couple more. Who knows what this weekend will bring. I also dug up a three speed transmission that actually still spins.....unbelievable. It was burried in sand, so they are in bad shape, but not as bad as something like black dirt. Ill keep everyone posted and Ill check out that 70.
Maybe you should contact Hemmings or Musclecar Enthusiast come do an article when you get the shovels out again!
I dont get it. Leave buried for 35 years? What can they be worth now. He could have just let them take them back then. Why didnt he dig them up years ago? Adam, I see you like the old school hair dryers. My brother had a Shebly Z that he abused Mustangs with years ago. I was amazed the way he could power shift that crude shifter.
A couple weeks ago i stopped at an old building in Havre Mt to ask about a car i saw sitting behind it. started talking to the guy about old cars and he took me inside. there were four 1967 SS427 4 speed convertible Impalas that he said were all 425 hp cars. two 66 SS 4 speed convertible chevelles and a couple hardtop 66 and 67 SS chevelles. only one chevelle was restored all the others were in restorable shape.. i think some of tha cars started to rust after i left cause i drooled all over them.
I quote again, you should do this!! try to get a hold of hemmings or Hot Rod mag, Musclecar etc... I bet they would jump at this story... And take pictures regardless!!! I was dreaming about digging up stage1 's all night !
Ok, if you must.....Ill post some pics of us digging up the camaro in a bit I documented the whole thing and even made a 2 minute video of me walking deep into the woods where it was buried. Ill try to get them up tonight. Im suprised at the interest here.
Bob, Only if all the missing kids in this country were hidden in muscle cars you could find them all. I cant believe the cars you find! o No:
If these cars are actually buried, I wonder if it was some kind of insurance scam that someone was running? You know, "The car was stolen and it will never be recovered."
I know of a person who buried 20 or so '50's junk Mopar cars back around 1965. Property owner wanted his land cleaned up and it was cheaper to bury the cars than pay a scrap yard to haul them off. Henry
I used to drive through Havre fairly regularly several years ago. Please tell me that you couldn't see that building from Hwy 2 going through town. Or I just might have a coronary right here and now.:eek2: To think that I missed something like that.ou:
on Hwy 2 just east of Havre. I happened to see a camaro sitting out by the building and stopped to see if the guy might know of any good local wrecking yards. I find more good stuff that way.. someday i'll find a GSX
