My opinion...It's going to be tough to make much more than what was paid for it in the beginning..But,it's still worth saving to me..
Esp. now that it's sans orig. steering wheel & tach. Take those 2 parts and be happy to get out of it for what you have into it @ that point.
For a little more (relatively speaking) there was a nice original paint 4 speed stage 1 survivor that Adam had up for sale.
So, you wanna hit the hypothetical highway... During the future restoration, the new owner decides on a readily available Dynacorn body. After all, Dynacorn advertises that it is better than original GM! Fortunately for us the original frame, OO 3.64 positive traction rear-end, BB TH400 transmission, & SS stamped 455" are all still in place. Another GSX saved! It's just metal right?
Joe: "Jesus man, you must be bored.. I'll play along but you gotta answer my hypothetical question first. You know, the one you edited out of the quote.. would you rather own this GSX that had every repop panel available welded around the firewall or a donor Skylark body that was dismantled and rewelded around the firewall or a GSX that had a "rebody".. AND how the hell could one be better than the other?" I would perform a restoration. Theres more left than you imply. That would involve what can be saved, and a combination of NOS, used sheetmetal, reproduction parts, and some fabrication. You don't have to play along Joe. If you can restore a stepchild, an X is childs play lol
Nice edit to your post.. you baited me a few times by quoting my post.. what would you expect? The chevelle picture was melodramatic at best, btw. I don't think there is more left than I imply. What would be left of the body that's original? Undoubtedly if that car gets restored it'll have nearly no original sheetmetal left. There is no question there.
The rust is rampant. It'll need full 1/4s, outer wheel houses, trunk drop offs, fenders and a deck lid plus a hood. All clearly apparent from the pictures.. anyone who nows a rusty car would guarantee it needs a trunk pan, inner wheel houses and floors. Likely the rear window channel and the firewall are hurt too. The core support and inner fenders are also junk as they usually are.. so what are you saving? This is typical northeast rust for cars that were driven in the winter. Nothing exciting here besides its a GSX. I'm not happy about it but it is what it is.
Why the follow up post? I thought there was no question... Us bored guys are masters at the edit and unbeatable baiters. Have a good evening.
You asked, I'll keep going... The salvageable hard parts will be so pitted after sandblasting that they won't be suitable for a restored car- upper and lower A arms, rear control arms, sway bars, trans crossmember, etc will all be replaced. The frame itself is probably questionable
How does one even know when you buy a concours restored car? 3/4s of the car could be Chinese for all you would know
