1970-75 bucket seat headrest locks - how do they attach to the seat

G’day all from Oz. A bit of background first: I bought my ‘71 GS Stage 1 with bucket seats that had clearly been recovered, as the passenger seat had a broken seatback locking strap and there were no holes in the seat base cover for the strap attachment bolts. Anyway, I bought a set of four repro chrome headrest locks and tried to fit them the other day. There were no holes in the upholstery for the lock mounting screws either; I poked a hole through the vinyl where it seemed there should be a screw hole and could not detect anything that felt like somewhere a screw could be fastened.

Looking at the 1975 Buick Parts Illustration Catalog, figure B11-21 showing the Strato Bucket seat seems to depict a pair of plates that are attached to the top of the seat frame with a pair of screws, said plate then has two holes in it for the headrest lock attaching screws. Can anyone confirm this to be the case, or set me straight? Does any supplier stock these plates, if that is what they are?

    Cheers
    Ben

The headrest locks fit onto plates that attach to the tops of the seat back, as you described You can see the holes here:

If they did not install the plates you can't put the locks on.
You could pull the back cover off and redo them with the plates, just take your time.
