So, I came across someone willing to punt on a full frame off resto half way through the process for $40G. Original motor, rear, and transmission. Motor and transmission have to be rebuilt yet. Some sheet metal, interior, chroming, painting, finishing still need done. The work thus far is awesome. Do I or don't I????

Forget it! If the motor + tranny aren't done, and it still needs painting, sheetmetal, interior, etc., then the car is WAY FAR from being 1/2 done. You will sink another 40-50K in it to finish it, unless you can do it yourself. It's more than the car is worth, and 40K should get you a pretty nice finished car.

My opinion. - Don't. Too expensive. Too much left to do.

I know of a few driver ready 69 stage ragtops, several 69 stage 4 speeds and at least 3-5 69 stage hardtops that will cost UNDER $40K...However, if it is a numbers 69 Stage 4 SPEED ragtop, that MAY be a different story...

40k half way. Another 40k to go all the way. 80k value depending on color and options. If you like it, go for it. But, it doesn't sound quite 1/2 way done from your discription, and the second half is a lot of buying this and that which adds up in a hurry. My advice, do one hell of an inventory with an eye for detail because each part is so tough to find in excellent condition. How long's this beast been off road and / or apart?

Brian brings up a GREAT point...You are getting a 'half completed project'. Make sure every part is there- and I mean EVERY-and is inventoried, bagged, etc. This includes the smallest nut that screws onto the back of the dash pad. :bglasses:

Sounds more than half way done to me. He already did the first half, taking it apart. Now you just have to do the second half, putting it all back together.

CJP- still has bodywork, paint, interior, driveline... Even though I am a 'half full' person, the project sounds maybe a quarter of the way finished.. No way on $40G's...

If its your dream car buy it. But don't ever expect to get your cash back out of it. And make sure every piece is there and in new or NOS shape. :kodak: Good Luck with your decision.

That's what I was going to ask. I assumed auto because omitting 4-speed in the description would be an :error:.

If auto, then $40K should be a solid number 2 driver. In other words, assembled! IMHO

Important, perhaps, but quality is number 1 IMHO. Loved the fall photo Alan!

It sounds like other members of the community know where there is a stash of 1969 GS400 Stage 1 convertibles, numbers matching, in number 2 condition for 45-50k. I say what they said at the end of this 21 second video...
