There having been some recent discussion on this, (on a misplaced “wanted” thread…) I may have something to add… I have “yet another” pair of rare ’68 headrest buckets. (Not original to the car, but I have every reason to believe they came to the car intact. The patina matches the door panels…) “Suckered in” by the factory literature, I didn’t think twice in assuming that my seats were “hybrids.” The recent thread made me “look twice…”
Having a handy '70 GS, I mixed and matched, as suggested... (The black '70 headrests have a 10-29-69 date code)
Question Is there a visable difference between 1968 to 1969 headrests I have for my 68 abody buckets with side entry buttons with headrests they have a 69 date code passenger side is a recliner By the material on them they pontiac any help in sorting out would help lots thanks
The escutcheons on the seat in your picture are 68’s. From the other thread, the headrest posts on the 68’s are different and have “dents” not stepped notches. From the other thread it appears there are 3 styles of headrests, 68’s with notches 69’s with notches 70-72 with notches in different positions There are also 3 different types of escutcheons, 68, as pictured, 69 with a wire type latch system and a round button, 70-72 with a flat steel slide latch system and a rectangular type button.
