Is there a clip that retains the cable where it passes thru the frame. We have the the cable disconnected at both ends and have the “fingers” slipped thru the firewall but can’t seem to slide it thru the frame. What am I missing?
Can’t answer for Rivera but In my 70 GS, the cable has to come out the engine compartment side on both ends. There was a clip on the back side of the frame under the car. The frame part of the cable has to come forward into engine bay and the cabin part of the cable down into the engine bay.
Small worm hose clamp, and a lot of patience, or pipe with I'd of hole to slip over cable and fingers. (Reading comprehension fail. Did not read it thoroughly, that you already got the "fingered retainer" through the firewall. )
This might help: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/parking-brake-install.341634/#post-2934202 Some call it a mouse ear clip. Follow the cable and you will see a clip just before the spring holding the cable in place. At least thats it on a GS, Riv should be the same.
Found my old thread when I had the same problem on my 70GS. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/parking-brake-cable.348302/
The Riv parking brake cable joins/separates at the back of the car/frame where it splits off to go to the tear drums. Take it apart there and you should be able to pull the rest of it through the frame towards the front. I had to replace the rear portion for the a safety a few years ago on my 69 Riv when I first got it. Hopefully this helps!
