I came across a posi from a 67 Cutlass. The rear measures 54 1/2” between the backing plates . How difficult would it be to swap this rear into a 68 skylark where the original 8.2 is now ? I currently have 15 X 7 rally’s on the rear with 245/60’s

Its an 8.2” P-type or Pontiac, which came on the early Oldsmobiles. It’s a direct swap. It’s the same width and same u-joint. Driveshaft is the same too.

If you pull the axles out of both rears, you can wire up the backing plates, brakes and all and just swap the rears without messing with the brakes/lines/emergency brake cables. Then reassemble everything. That's what I did when I swapped in my 8.5.

The 3.08 Olds rear w/ the posi would be a nice upgrade over my 2.56 peg leg . Any info to make the swap as painless as possible is welcomed.

Both rears are bolt in axles. Pull the axles out of both rears. Your existing backing plates complete with brakes will bolt back on with the axles in the Olds rear. Then it's just 4 bolts for the control arms. Do you understand what I am describing?
