I've emailed the seller and gotten some more pics. Looks like the same ones he posted on the new craigslist ad.
I'll hold off on anything until I see if yachtsmanbill goes thru with getting this.

Hey Steve... Thanks for holding out, if only for a few days. Im supposed to get a few specific pics today, so we'll have a better understanding of the condition. The seller doesnt know if its a 401 or a 425 and I dont know the ID'ing difference either. This is getting into the "vintage era" for me. Always been into the 1970-72 models of anything GM.

Theres some rot in the floors, and the inner fenders to the trunk floor areas. The thing that haunts me is the original CL post with the DS rear tire looking like it was parked on a log. A dirt floor barn isnt that much better than in the weeds. The "dust" leads me to believe it was inside anyways.

Whats your thoughts on the OA condition, being as yer a 66 WC owner? Im up for a challenge and the price is more realistic than some roaches Ive looked at for sure! Comments? Thoughts?? Bill

For 66 MW would be a 425. This would be on the front top of the block by the valley cover along with the VIN. MT or MR would be a 401.

So is that number pad under the T-stat or back by that Chevy (!!) distributor thats in the wrong end LOL...That list I linked doesnt show an "MR". ws

    MT for a 401, MW for a 425 1-4 barrel, MZ for a 425 2-4 barrel.
MR was a "400" for the Skylark Gran Sport, which is a 401. There might have been another designation for the "400" with a Quadrajet carb?

Didn't all the GS 'cats have block letters and not the script?

No sir, the GS could be on an early script-badged car or a later block-badged car.

I'm glad to know this car is getting some interest. My mom and step father used to live in Sedalia, Missouri. I know that area pretty well. There is not much interest in projects, and it's Christmas time, so I doubt this car goes anywhere. I would start around $2250 and see if you could get it for $2500.

However, I find it interesting that that pale yellow 67 GS 400 convertible in southern Minnesota I posted on about 6 months ago remains unsold and a lot of eyes have looked at that ad. He fluctuates between $2000 and $3000 offered price.

Thanks Bryan from Des Moines (East side girl here). Another car came up last night and I am really anxious to set eyes on pictures of the Other car. I was telling Bill we figure out financing for a bit more and bring what he REALLY wants home. A 4 speed. dreams just might come true. especially if this good weather holds out I get to learn stick shift with the T bird...LOL...ppat

Anyone have any info regarding the chrome wheels? Looking at the pics it looks like he is swapping around wheels/tires? The wheels look to be the best items on the car

Well, got three duplicates of the new CL ad pics. Sent the guy the link about nailhead number ID's and no response. Says its a 425 because another looker told him so. Glad he didnt tell him it was a 409 Chevy motor. I think 66WC needs the parts more than I do...:(

Hey Tom ... are you in here yet?? ws

About the '66 425.... it was an optional engine and should be red, not green.
The fuel filter bracket on a '66 was down on the water pump, not up at the t-stat housing like this one. Earlier years had his style. The 66 also has engine lift loops cast into the block at the left rear, and on the water manifold on the right side. I don't see the loop at the front. '66 425 usually (always?) came with a Q-jet. The power steering pump is the short neck '66 style.
This may not be the original engine.... I'll guess it's an earlier 64-66 401 or 425.

    Update / Non-update....
I emailed the seller on Thursday with how to identify what engine is actually in this. So far, I haven't gotten a reply.
I'm off on the 24th, 25th, & 26th, so I may try to take a drive out to check it out. He sent me his phone number in an earlier email, so I will probably call him tomorrow and set it up for the 26th.
I'll update as I gather more information.
