My Skylark started to feel and make a clunk sound as I slowed down to a stop. It accelerates and decelerates fine, but as soon as I slow down to a full stop I feel the clunk. Not sure if a transmission issue or something else. Anyone have any suggestions about what it could be? Hoping it’s a simple adjustment that’s off on the transmission. Appreciate the help!

A bad modulator valve will do that.. Used to replace them all the time back in the day.

Might be the transmission downshifting normally but you are feeling it because there is too much line pressure. Modulator could cause that, but it would likely cause other shift problems. Are you sure it isn’t a worn u joint?

I have play in the drive shaft and can shift it a little, but it doesn’t seem to be at the u joint. Not sure if there is a margin of movement while the car is in park?
